Judy Gaman was so busy making a name for herself that she barely took the time to meet a stranger, enjoy life, or simply stop to breathe. Immersed in her job as the director of business development for a high-profile medical practice―a job that required her to write health and wellness books and host a nationally syndicated radio show―she spent every day going full speed ahead with no looking back. That is, until the day she met Lucille Fleming.

While writing a book on longevity, Judy interviewed Lucille, an elegant and spirited woman who had just recently turned 100. Lucille had the fashion and style of old Hollywood, but it was all hidden behind the doors of her assisted living center. What began as a quick meeting became a lasting friendship that transformed into an inseparable bond. Lucille brought incredible wisdom and great stories to the table, while Judy provided an avenue for excitement and new opportunities. Together, the two began living life to the fullest, and meeting the most interesting people along the way (including Suzanne Somers). But then Lucille’s life came to an end through unexpected and unfortunate circumstances―and the very first lesson she ever taught Judy proved to be the most important one of all.

My Thoughts

I have a delightful read for you today. If you follow me and read my posts you know that one of my favorite things is reading book centered around Centenarians. I adore reading about our elderly, learning about life, love, mistakes made and successes achieved.  The older population is truly a gold mine, we can learn so much from them. When I had the opportunity to read LOVE, LIFE, & LUCILLE by Judy Gaman, you know I jumped at the chance.

With a busy life as a writer and radio show host, Judy Gaman didn’t really have the chance to savor her own life. When she took on the task of writing a book on longevity, Judy met and interviewed Lucille, a wonderful woman who had just turned 100. The two ladies became fast friends, both benefiting from the friendship, one with wisdom and the other with motivation, both thriving and living life in the moment. When Lucille unexpectedly passes away, Judy learns how remarkably important the lessons Lucille taught her are so essential to flourish in life.

Such a beautiful memoir. From making you reminisce about your own relationships, to questioning your own decisions, and receiving some inspiring advice, Judy Gaman has captured a life and friendship on paper like no other. I almost feel like Lucille was my own friend, and the prose was written so well I felt as if I was experiencing these memories with Judy.  This book demonstrates the power of friendship and how necessary it is to connect with others, and truly highlights the importance of the elderly in our life. Such treasures, we need to cherish our aging community, learn from them, and celebrate their lives and all they have worked for and have given us. Judy Gaman shared a delightful memoir, heartwarming and funny yet heartbreaking at the same time, truly worth the read. I highly recommend this book.

Thank you to Judy Gaman, She Writes Press and Kate Rock from Kate Rock Book Tours for my gifted copy of this book for my honest and unbiased opinion for review.

Here is a little about the book:

Emily’s Struggling To Find Romance Online. Will Ditching The Dating Apps Lead To True Love?

Online dating isn’t working for introvert Emily. Although she’s comfortable swiping right at home in her PJs, the idea of going out to meet a guy in person fills her with dread.

So when her best friend challenges her to ditch the apps, attend a load of awkward singles’ events and find love in real life, Emily wants to run for the hills.

Then she meets Josh. He’s handsome, kind and funny, but Emily’s had her heart crushed before and knows he’s hiding something…

Is Josh too good to be true? Can Emily learn to trust again and if she does, will it lead to love or more heartache?

Love Offline is a fun, sexy, entertaining story about friendship, stepping outside of your comfort zone and falling in love the old-fashioned way. Ideal for fans of Sophie Kinsella, Lindsey Kelk and Beth O’Leary’s The Flatshare.

Review

Finding love after a 5 year relationship is hard. It’s even harder when you were cheated on in the last 6 months of that relationship and feel crushed. Can you think of anything worse? How about spending half your time on social media scrolling through your ex’s feed, watching him move on with his life and getting engaged?? Yep, that is Emily’s life.
But her best friend Chloe who is anti-technology finally persuades Emily to stop “swiping right” to find a new man and to go on a digital hiatus for 2 months and give “real life” dating a chance. So Emily reluctantly succumbs and goes to some single events and tries speed dating. Alas, she meets Josh, who is fabulous and seems to have it all, but with all that, she still feels like he’s got to be hiding something. Will Emily give Josh a chance and allow herself to fall in love again the traditional way or will she fall back into her safety net and head back to online dating?

Another wonderful romcom by the brilliant Olivia Spring, who has written some really amazing books. Love Offline is fun and humorous with a ton of true to life scenarios that anyone who has been, or is dating, can totally relate to. The social media angle really adds a lot to the story, reminding us how it can really be destructive to your life, your time, and your attitude about yourself and others. It’s a refreshing warning to us all. I really adored this book, I enjoyed seeing Emily’s life evolve, and her BFF Chloe is just the perfect friend to have next to you. This is a sublime, heartwarming, feel-good, laugh out loud romcom for everyone. Highly Recommend!

Blog Tour & Review: The 12 Christmases of You & Me by Jennifer Joyce

Rachels Random Resources presents

The 12 Christmases of You & Me

by author Jennifer Joyce

published October 20, 2020

Here is a little about the book:

What if you could go back in time and fix the biggest mistake of your life?

Two years ago, Maisie’s best friend walked out of her life and she hasn’t heard from him since. When she wakes up in 1994, she naturally assumes she’s dreaming. But when she finds herself in the past again the next night and her actions in the dream alter her present-day life, she begins to wonder if she’s somehow hopping back in time. And if she is time-travelling, can she save her friendship with Jonas?

When Maisie is forced to relive Christmases of the past, will she face up to her mistakes, or make them all over again?

The 12 Christmases of You & Me is a magical tale of friendship, first loves, and learning to live in the present.

Review

Think about your past. Is there anything you would go back and change? Would you like a do over? Maisie could possibly change some of her actions in the past to alter the way things turn out in the future. But will it cause a butterfly effect and change a whole lot more?
When Maisie is helping best friend Lily plan her wedding, she starts to become worried about what will happen when she sees their other friend Jonas, who she has not spoken to in 2 years after a falling- out. Thing is, Maisie has finally realized that she really is in love with Jonas, and has felt that way for years. Then Maisie starts having dreams about her past, Christmases of the past, and when she wakes up from these dreams things in the future have slightly changed. Maisie starts to realize that some of her actions in her dreams are changing things in the future when she awakens. Will she utilize this as a way to change her future with Jonas, or is it only in her dreams?

This is such a sweet holiday read. There is nothing like visiting past holidays in your dreams, a bit of nostalgia, spending time with family, and remembering fun times, unless some of those moments you unknowingly did something that affects your future forever. (I’ve had a few of those family holidays myself.) Watching Maisie face those situations again and re-evaluating her life was a lesson on our friendships, family and how we react to certain situations. It makes you look at your own life and appreciate that time changes everyone. This was a well written fun book that included time travel, which is not an easy task for an author. Jennifer Joyce gave the holiday romcom a little bit of pizzazz and wrote a delightful story about what-if’s. I loved this book and if you are looking for a unique twist on a Christmas romcom read, I highly recommend this one. A wonderful story.

Thank you so much to Jennifer Joyce, and Rachel Gilbey from Rachels Random Resources for my gifted copy of this book for my honest and unbiased opinion.

Here is a little about the book:

The offer is too tempting: be part of a scientific breakthrough, step out of his life for a year, and be paid hugely for it. When ViGen Pharmaceuticals asks Jeremiah to be part of an illegal cloning experiment, he sees it as a break from an existence he feels disconnected from. No one will know he’s been replaced—not the son who ignores him, not his increasingly distant wife—since a revolutionary drug called Meld can transfer his consciousness and memories to his copy.

From a luxurious apartment, he watches the clone navigate his day-to-day life. But soon Jeremiah discovers that examining himself from an outsider’s perspective isn’t what he thought it would be, and he watches in horror as “his” life spirals out of control. ViGen needs the experiment to succeed—they won’t call it off, and are prepared to remove any obstacle. With his family in danger, Jeremiah needs to finally find the courage to face himself head-on.

Review

When I finished this book the first thing out of my mouth was “I really liked that,” I know it seems pretty generic, but it was my first instant reaction, usually the most important one, and even after thinking about it a while now, I still feel the same way.

This is considered a techno thriller. Usually not my thing, I steer away from sci-fi and stuff like that, but the synopsis really called to me because to me I saw more of a medical/genetic thriller, and you know I love anything medical. I am so glad I gave this one a chance.

Jeremiah agrees to let his company clone him and insert his clone as a stand in for Jeremiah’s life. They have found a way to not just clone the body but your mind as well, and they can manipulate what you remember or forget. For 10 million dollars he agrees. So for a year he is put up in this awesome apartment with all his needs met, while he works with the scientists to study the reactions of the clone and if Jeremiah would react the same way. As the year passes, Jeremiah starts to notice things about himself in the clone that he needs to change, but he also start catching on to more of the company’s cloning motives, and things he is being lied to about. When he decides he needs to intervene, his company does everything they can to stop him. But Jeremiah develops a plan, and hopefully it will save his life and his family.

Mirror Man will grab you instantly, I read it in one sitting, and could not put it down. There is something about Jane Gilmartin’s writing and this story line that keeps you turning the pages. I will be honest, I hit a small lull about 30% into the book, wondering where things were going to take us, but within pages the plot thickened even more and I swear it was a rush to the ending. This is a phenomenal premise, and is not weighed down by science or technology, if anything I felt it was more psychological and just based on cloning. I really did enjoy this book and its a brilliant debut. I will definitely read future Gilmartin books. Most importantly, this book really points out why it is so important to have a dog! Loved this one.

Thank you so much to Jane Gilmartin, MIRA, and Netgalley for my gifted copy of this book for my honest and unbiased opinion.

Excerpt:

Charles Scott glared down at him with a glint in his green eyes that felt like a warning, and Jeremiah replayed in his head the man’s ambiguous threat during their first meeting several weeks before.

“You now know as much about this project as anyone else involved,” he’d said. “It wouldn’t do to have too many people walking around with this kind of information. Our investors have a tendency to get nervous.”

Although Scott had quickly followed that remark with the matter of Jeremiah’s substantial compensation, there was no mistaking the implication: the moment he’d been told about the cloning project Jeremiah was already in. That first meeting hadn’t been an invitation so much as an orientation, and the contract he’d later signed had been a formality, at best. And the entire thing had done nothing but gain momentum from that moment on.

Dr. Pike continued to affix the wires to Jeremiah’s head. Jeremiah focused on the man’s gleaming black hair and the deep brown of his sure, professional hands, and he struggled to remember the allure of the $10 million payout he’d get at the end of the whole thing. That kind of money could fix a lot of problems. It would change things. The prospect of that fortune had been enough to make him turn away from principles he thought were unshakable. Every man has his price, he supposed.

Somewhere in the back of his mind he also acknowledged the real temptation of a twelve-month sabbatical from his own life. It had seduced him every bit as much as the money had. Maybe more. Between a job that had already begun to make him question his own morals, and a marriage that felt increasingly more like a lie, stress was eating him alive. And into his lap fell a chance to just walk away from all of it—without consequence and without blame. A free pass. He could simply walk away without anyone even knowing he was gone. There isn’t a man alive, he told himself, who would have refused. Despite the ethical question, despite that human cloning was illegal the world over, it would have tempted anyone.

Dr. Pike injected the clone with Meld and then turned wordlessly to Jeremiah with the second syringe poised above his left shoulder.

Jeremiah closed his eyes and rolled up his sleeve.

After the initial stab of the needle, he felt nothing. Which is not to say he didn’t feel anything; he literally felt nothing. Seconds after the injection, he became aware of a total emptiness, like a towering black wave that threatened to sink him into an immeasurable void. The experience was unlike anything he’d ever known. He imagined an astronaut suddenly untethered from his ship, floating helplessly into unending darkness. Without thinking, he immediately felt his body recoil. His mind screamed against it.

I’m dying!

From impossibly far away, he heard Dr. Pike say something about a heart rate and felt the slight pressure of a hand on his shoulder. He couldn’t see anything of the hospital room anymore. He was drowning in the blackness. His chest felt suddenly constricted. He fought just to find his breath.

“This is all perfectly normal, Mr. Adams. You have nothing to worry about. Concentrate on the sound of my voice. Nod if you can hear me.”

With considerable effort, Jeremiah managed what he hoped was a nod of his head. He was suddenly gripped by the alarming certainty that if he couldn’t communicate somehow, he’d be lost—swept away forever.

“Good. Good. Listen to my voice. It will keep you grounded.” Pike still sounded far away, but Jeremiah nodded again and struggled to focus. “What you are experiencing is to be expected. Do you remember when you took the Meld with Dr. Young? Do you remember the way you could feel her thoughts for the first few minutes?”

He nodded. It had been an unnerving thing to perceive her consciousness mixing with his like that. Flashes from her mind—odd, alien things like the feel of a blister on the back of her right heel, the familiar gleam in the eye of an old man he’d never seen—had swirled into the very structure of his own mind and fought for a place to settle. He had railed against that, too, and she had grounded him by flashing a penlight in his face, making him focus on that while the Meld took effect. Afterward, once he had sunk in, it had been easier.

“This is no different than what you experienced then,” Pike said. “This time, though, you are connected to an empty mind. There’s nothing there. But the more you resist, the longer this will take. You need to relax, Mr. Adams. Give in to it.”

Jeremiah nodded again and then shook his head with as much grit as he could muster. How does one give in to this? He didn’t think he could do it.

“Once your thoughts begin transferring into the mind of the clone it will be easier for you,” Pike urged. “Focus on a memory, as I suggested. Something vivid. It will help to fill that void you’re experiencing now. It will give you something to hang on to.”

Without the benefit of his full faculties, Jeremiah had little choice but to grab the last thing he’d been thinking about—his initial conversation with Charles Scott, the day all of this began.

He’d been surprised when he’d received an invitation to lunch from ViMed’s head of Engineering. The man was an icon in the science world, and although he’d quoted him a hundred times for the company, Jeremiah had never actually met him. He’d been intrigued enough to accept the invitation, especially when Scott had told him it involved a “proposition that could make him a very wealthy man.”

Flashes of that encounter and snatches of conversation now flitted through his mind like so many fireflies. He fought to catch them.

“We’ve been watching you, Mr. Adams.”

“All we ask is one year of your life. Isn’t that worth $10 million?”

“We can do this. The science exists. And with Meld, the clone will even share your thought patterns… Your own mother won’t know the difference.”

“This is sanctioned by powerful people—we have millions in secret federal backing. There are billions more in eventual funding… There’s no need to be so suspicious, Mr. Adams.”

From somewhere far away, Jeremiah heard Dr. Pike repeating his name. He had been so engulfed in his efforts to hold on to the memory that he’d almost forgotten where he was. As soon as he realized it, the void loomed again in his mind.

“Mr. Adams,” Pike said, “you’ve got to listen to me. The clone cannot pick up on any memory of the experiment. What you’re thinking about is not going to help. You need to think about something else, some memory that won’t be filtered. His mind is still empty.”

Jeremiah panicked. He couldn’t think. And now that he wasn’t focused on anything, the blackness began to take over again, creeping closer and threatening to swallow him. He fought for breath.

“Relax, Mr. Adams,” Pike said. “Think about your job here at ViMed. Remember something the clone can actually use. Something he’ll need to know.”

He felt a dull jab at his shoulder.

“This should help. I’ve given you a mild sedative. Take a few deep breaths. Concentrate on your breathing.”

With everything in him, Jeremiah tried to turn his mind away from the void that seemed to be all around him. He inhaled deeply and tried to focus on the rise of his own chest. Exhaled, and he felt his chest fall.

“Very good, Mr. Adams. Very good. Pulse is returning to normal. Deep breaths. Now, think about a typical day at work. Something ordinary and mundane.”

Inhale. Exhale. After a moment, Jeremiah began to relax and, as the sedative took hold, he found he could let his mind wander without the frantic thought that he’d never get it back. An oddly comforting fog seemed to expand in front of him, pushing the blackness away slightly, and Jeremiah retreated into it.

He began to think about the morning of the Meld fiasco—the day the New Jersey housewife had killed herself. The press had been circling. He’d arrived at his office with a terse mandate from his superiors to “get these fuckers off our back” and no idea how to accomplish that. It hadn’t been lost on him that not a single soul seemed bothered enough to stop and feel sorry about it, and he’d taken a quick moment behind his office door to offer silent condolences. It wasn’t thirty seconds before someone had come knocking, pushing him to get something done.

Weeks before, he’d heard talk of Meld being used to detect brain activity in a sixteen-year-old football player who had been comatose for nearly six months. Time to cash in. He tracked down the doctor somewhere in Delaware and the man started gushing about Meld, calling it “magical,” “a godsend” and “the most important medical advance of a generation.”

“After so many weeks,” he said, “the parents were hopeless.”

Meld was a last resort before pulling the plug, and it gave them the first clear signs of neural activity in the boy.

“Not only was he aware and awake in there, but he was cognizant of everything that was going on around him—including the fact that his parents were losing hope. He even heard them talking about funeral arrangements at one point. The kid was scared, terrified. He was begging for his life in there. That’s what I saw when I took the Meld with him. Meld absolutely saved his life. There is no doubt in my mind.”

Jeremiah had almost smiled. It was pure gold. A few hours later, the story was in the hands of every major news outlet, and that doctor was spending his fifteen minutes of fame touting Meld as “a medical miracle.”

Jeremiah focused on that now. Maybe Meld did have some silver lining, after all, he thought. Maybe it was miraculous.

Book Review – Why I Held Your Hand by Augusta Reilly

About Why I Held Your Hand

• Digital: 192 pages
• Publisher:
Rhapsodic Press (October 23, 2020)
• ASIN:

Laura Delaney loves her small mountain hometown of North Powell with its quaint charm, stately Victorian homes and surrounding hiking trails. Unfortunately, when it comes to attracting travel dollars, it can no longer compete with the flashy hot springs and ski slopes of nearby competitors.

That’s why she hires a hotshot marketing team to figure out how to inject the old magic back into North Powell’s sagging tourist trade. What she doesn’t expect is for the team to include David Harper. Smart, funny, handsome, and amazing in bed, he’s the perfect man. All she needs to do now is keep their relationship under wraps until the project is over.

But that’s easier said than done when she’s assigned to work with Spence Markham, the company’s offbeat “idea man” and David’s professional nemesis. When Spence suggests hosting a Dickens Festival to revitalize the town’s once-booming holiday season, Laura is thrilled. She’s even more thrilled when Spence falls in love with Powell House, the dilapidated Victorian that Laura hopes to renovate and turn into a town museum. But is Spence falling in love with her as well?

As the Festival nears, Laura’s feelings for both men intensify. Her relationship with David has only gotten better—and hotter—and yet she finds herself counting down the days until she can see Spence again.

Soon, what started as a simple assignment becomes a tale of two possible futures. But which one will Laura choose?

My Thoughts

Why I Held Your Hand is a delightful romcom with a complicated love triangle that I just adored. I mean, what’s better than a love triangle? Maybe a love triangle with 2 men that are adversaries? Well guess what, we’ve got that right here too! I think a love triangle with 2 hot adversarial men, a small tourist town with a quaint vibe, some real charming townspeople, and a woman who is stuck in the middle of it all makes for a sweet story, and Augusta Reilly nailed it with this one.

A quick read, you will find yourself engrossed in this book from the start, and if you like some steam in your romances, you are in the right place. Reilly writes quite authentically about what it’s like to be a single girl on the dating scene, and the price you pay for dating more than one person at a time. Go figure our protagonist would actually LIKE both of these guys and have to make a decision. (It’s hard enough to find just ONE good guy anymore, let alone 2….Lucky Laura)! I really enjoyed this romcom and was quite satisfied in the end, its a fun and stimulating read.   I think you will enjoy it too.
I will definitely look for more of Augusta Reilly’s work in the future.

Kate Connelly should be careful what she wishes for.

Just seventeen, she already feels like she’s suffocating. Since her mother’s death, her father’s basically checked out, so she’s stuck raising her brothers by herself out in the New Mexico scrub. All Kate wants is a little distraction from the same-ole, same-ole that is her life.

When two mysterious guys show up at the diner where she works, she thinks her wish has come true, until they start giving her a hard time. Like her life isn’t hard enough. Something about them niggles her, but she brushes it off. She’s never going to see them again anyway . . . right?

Then they appear in an alley one night to either rescue or kidnap her (she’s still not sure which) before disappearing like figments of her imagination.

Kate decides to put the bizarre encounters out of her mind. She has bigger problems to worry about: like that elite military academy that’s been pursuing her gifted little brother. When one of their cadets shows up at Clovis High School, he creates instant pandemonium. And just happens to be one of those mysterious guys. Coincidence? Mama said there’s no such thing. And to always trust her instinct. But that might be kind of hard, because every time she’s around Cadet Peter Davenport, her gut starts flip-flopping on her. And her heart.

Can Kate keep it together long enough to stop Cadet Davenport’s mission? She’s about to find out. And—once again—how neatly life can be split into before and after.

My Thoughts

Oh, I have a good one for you.  Do not pass this review up!

Seventeen year old Kate is taking care of her two younger brothers after the death of her mother and in the midst of her fathers emotional hopelessness. When an elite military academy starts to pursue her younger brother who is gifted, Kate is adamant about saving him from being sent there by her father. In the meantime, she keeps seeing these two guys hanging around that she’s never seen before, and it’s just too convenient to be coincidence. When one of them show up to “mentor” her little brother for the Academy, Kate struggles to hide her attraction to him while still trying to save her brother from the lure of the school…. and that’s just the beginning of this unputdownable page-turning read., we haven’t even cracked the surface. With tons of mystery and drama, teen angst, and a twist of paranormal, its totally understandable how this book is touted as “The Hunger Games meets Twilight.”

There are no words for a 500+ page book that is so absorbing that you read it in one sitting. (Ok, I got up and moved around a bit, but still, I read it in one day). I was totally consumed by the story at the start, and CJ Daly keeps hitting you with so many more unexpected twists and turns that just keep you guessing. Not to mention the love-hate relationship between Kate and Pete that takes young romance to a whole new level. The best part of this book…. it ends on a cliffhanger. Why is that the best part? Well because Book 2 is already out and available and you can pick up right where you left off. YES!!

If you are a YA fan, love romance, mystery, and paranormal, this book (and series) is totally for you. I guarantee you will devour this one. Highly recommend, 5 stars. CJ Daly is brilliant.

About C.J. Daly

CJ Daly grew up on the scrabbly plains of Eastern New Mexico. When she was supposed to be helping her six siblings with chores on the family ranch, she was really sneaking behind dusty haystacks to read. And dreaming about becoming a writer.

After graduating high school, CJ moved to Big D (Dallas) where she quickly put herself through college while trying to rid herself of her country accent. She had better luck with college, graduating magna cum laude with a degree in English literature. After teaching a few years, and pausing to have back-to-back boys, she began writing in earnest.

A few years later, “The Academy Saga” was born. “The Academy” is her debut novel, and “The Academy, Cadet-in-Training” is the sequel. CJ is so proud that both books earned Readers’ Favorites 5-STAR seals of approval. When she isn’t writing, you can usually find her running from one athletic field to another, feeding the array of wild animals that show up at her back door, or kicking back with her gal-pals to sip cocktails and gossip about favorite books and TV shows.

She’s finally come home, but will she choose to stay?

After twelve years spent building her career in Los Angeles, Bailey Boone returns home to Ministry, Alabama, weeks before Christmas with a large cast and crew. She’s desperate for a miracle to save her company’s big budget holiday film that just lost its winter wonderland location. Bailey may have bolted from Ministry before the ink on her diploma dried, but her hometown definitely knows how to throw an unforgettable southern Christmas. Except she forgot about the ghosts of Christmas past she left behind—especially her first love, Seth.

Sheriff Seth McKay never forgot the girl he let go so many years ago. They were soulmates, but he knew Bailey needed more than Ministry could offer. Now she’s back and more stunning and confident than ever. Despite the years, their connection and chemistry still burn bright. Can Seth find his own Christmas miracle and convince Bailey to write her story in Ministry…with him?

My Thoughts

I have another Christmas tale for you! This one is NOEL, ALABAMA by @susansandsauthor. This is the 5th installment in the Alabama series, but please be aware you most certainly can read this as a stand alone…..it’s especially perfect if you are looking for a singular holiday read.

Bailey Boone is an assistant on a Hollywood holiday movie that suddenly needs a new filming location ASAP. Brilliantly, Bailey suggests her hometown of Ministry, Alabama where southern Christmas is celebrated in style and is exactly what the film is looking for. Bailey has not been back in Ministry since high school graduation, when she couldn’t wait to leave. Now returning to film the movie, she insists she will only be there until the film wraps up. But when old memories return and she reunites with her ex-boyfriend and first love Seth, they find a flicker of sparkle still exists in their relationship after all these years.  Seth is hoping to persuade Bailey to continue her next chapter in life in Ministry with him. Will there be a Christmas surprise for them both?

Oh how I love second chances at love. Even better, second chances at love at CHRISTMAS! If you are looking for a heartfelt, fun, and satisfying holiday read, Susan Sands fulfills that desire right here with Noel, Alabama. With a cute and quirky cast of characters, a little glimpse at film making, and a small town with a ton of holiday cheer this Christmas romance is definitely one to pick up. I really enjoyed this one and walked away with that cozy feel good feeling I always hope for in a holiday read. A consuming and engrossing story. Also, don’t be afraid to check out the first 4 books in this series too, they are just as sweet!

Thank you to @susansandsauthor, @tulepublishing and @katerocklitchick for my gifted copy of this book for my honest and unbiased opinion for review.

Here is a little about the book:

Past secrets return to complicate Maisie’s future with the charming Sidney Daniels in the final installment of the Cornish romance series.

Picking up where book seven left off, Maisie’s plans to celebrate her book’s thrilling news remain on hold after Sidney has vanished from Port Hewer overnight, following a brush with his secret past. His departure leaves Maisie with a head full of questions and a heart torn in two, made even worse by the rumors flying about him through the town. Where and why has he gone? Will he ever come back again? And—foremost in Maisie’s mind—was the heartache from his younger days somehow to blame for his sudden and mysterious flight?

But when Dean convinces her that Sidney may be facing a choice that could ruin his life, Maisie must set out to find him, once again leaving behind the Cornish seaside haven of Port Hewer she’s come to think of as home, and leaving behind the answer to a secret she’s been longing to know since the beginning. Not knowing when or if she’ll return, she’s taking the biggest risk with her heart so far…and the truth she discovers waiting for her at the end of her journey will make her wonder if things can ever possibly be the same as they were before.

Questions are answered, secrets are spilled, and the biggest reveal of the series is finally unveiled as A LITTLE HOTEL IN CORNWALL reaches its exciting conclusion.

Review

Here it is, Book 8, the final installment of A Little Hotel in Cornwall Series. Much anticipated, yet disheartening to say goodbye, Laura Briggs is finally wrapping it up.

Picking up where Book 7 left off, Maisie is on the road searching for Sidney after he fled, astonished that his past secrets surprisingly finally caught up with him. Of course Maisie is upset, her relationship with Sidney was finally on the right track, and she wants some answers. The search to find Sid not only takes Maisie to some very different places, but she keeps running into multiple stumbling blocks on her journey and becomes very dispirited. When she finally finds Sidney, many secrets are exposed, and the big question is whether or not their relationship will survive. All our final questions are answered, and most of all we find out the biggest question of them all, who is the real Alistair Davies? Filled with shocks and surprises throughout the story, this charming tale finally comes to a savory ending.

With a continuance of all the appeal and magic carried thought out the series, Laura Briggs has given us a delightful and enthralling ending to her Cornwall series. The characters are as charismatic as they were since the beginning, and with a touch of mystery, a pinch of romance, a dash of adventure we come to the much anticipated conclusion. It’s sad to say goodbye to such wonderful characters, but I feel sure Ms. Briggs might just have some more magic up her sleeve. A delightful read, I highly recommend this book and the entire series.

Thank you so much to Laura Briggs, and Rachel Gilbey from Rachels Random Resources for my gifted copy of this book for my honest and unbiased opinion.

Blog Tour & Review – The Anxiety Diaries by Dana Muwwakkil

The Anxiety Diaries

by Dana Muwwakkil

Publish Date October 6, 2020

About The Anxiety Diaries

What will everybody think?

When I started this experiment at the beginning of 2019, to write every day, I simply thought I would be recording the mundane life of a mother, wife and struggling writer.

And yes, I considered the fact my family and friends and anybody else that reads this diary -my diary- would have access to my most intimate fears, hopes, thoughts, maybe even an embarrassing moment or two.

But who could have predicted that I would be providing a detailed account into my struggle with my mental health?

I had no idea that the anxiety that only ever played a minor role in my life would make its debut as the starring antagonist. Or that the obsessive thoughts and irrational fears that were always real to me would be given new life on the pages of my diary.

2019  turned out to be the worst year of my life and I can’t believe that I’m sharing this devastating journey with the world.

I came close to giving up, I made a near-fatal mistake and I spent too many moments terrified of my own thoughts.

But as nightmarish as that ordeal was, allowing readers to have a piece of my soul is even more frightening.

Publishing this book may be the bravest thing I’ve ever done.

This is my story.

My thoughts

What do I say about a memoir? Most of you guys know exactly how I feel about this. Telling your story, bearing your soul, how does anyone critique that? It’s not easy. Well, as a fellow anxiety & depression sufferer, armed with my Prozac and Xanax, I am about to give it a try and tell you about THE ANXIETY DIARIES by Dana Muwwakkil.

Where to start? This book, this book is all of us. Every day, moment to moment, what goes on inside our heads, how we are so critical of ourselves, our fears and stressors, our anguish and contentment, all of it, YOU, ME, FRIENDS, FAMILY, STRANGERS, look around you, its US.

Dana decided to write a diary, every day during the year 2019, recording her feelings and experiences, never knowing that in the end she would end up telling us about her intimate battle with her mental health. The book reads as exactly that….a diary, something any one of us would write, except Dana wasn’t afraid to put in words some of the things that the rest of us would be too afraid to reveal. It’s a simple, quick read, but its impact is beyond powerful. Dana has given us a lifeline, through her own struggles, letting us all know that we are not alone, that we share some of the same anxieties every day. Some of us struggle with more, some with less, but nevertheless, we are all struggling and with her divulgence in her writing we realize we are not isolated.

You know that old saying “misery loves company?” This is kinda like that. You realize by reading it that you have tons of ‘company’ experiencing their own personal ‘misery.’ There were so many times while reading this that I just wanted to pick up the phone and call Dana and tell her OMG, I KNOW HOW YOU FEEL! I wanted to compare coping mechanisms. I wanted to give her a big hug. I wanted to let her know she is not the only one. But alas, I don’t have her number. I don’t know Dana personally, but I KNOW Dana. I know the self doubt, the anxiety attacks, the striving to be liked by everyone. And I know that each and every one of us really need to read this book. I am so honored to have been able to read it, and it reminded me that I am not by myself. Bravo Dana.

5 Stars, Highly recommend. I can not wait to see if Dana gives us a Volume 2.

I just would like to thank Dana Muwwakkil and Suzanne Leopold of Suzy Approved Book Tours for the gifted copy of this book for my unbiased and honest opinion for review.

Here is a little about the book:

You’re never too old to fall in love…

There is a disturbance in the force and octogenarian Hattie Jenkins can feel it in her water. Still active and spritely, she guesses that the miserable-looking gentleman sitting morosely in the café where she works, might be the reason.

Widowed Alfred Miller has recently moved in with his daughter because she is worried that he’s becoming too frail and forgetful to look after himself. And he’s not in the least bit happy about it, especially since his home is soon be cleared and sold.

But when he enlists Hattie’s help to save some of his precious belongings, he doesn’t realise that Hattie’s mission is to save more than a few sticks of furniture. She’s on a mission to save him, too.

Review

Happy Publication Day to The Ticklemore Christmas Toy Shop and famed writer Liz Davies. I’m so excited to have been gifted an early copy of this amazingly heartwarming holiday story. Put this one on your radar right now because I know you are going to love it.

Poor widower Alfred has fallen a few times at home and has become a little forgetful, and now he has been forced to live with his daughter because she is “concerned for his health.” Unhappy about his wife’s passing, and now living under his daughters rule, Alfred is struggling to come to terms with selling his home. Being forced to clean out his house and get rid of all his stuff, especially all his hand-made toys out in the shed he’s that he’s made over the years is especially upsetting.
When Alfred wanders into the local book/coffee shop he meets 80 year old Hattie who works there. An unexpected friendship develops, and as Alfred confides his feelings to Hattie over the new changes in his life, Hattie decides to get involved and hatches a plan. What happens next helps more than just Alfred’s belongings, it could possibly save him too.

Elderly Christmas romance, one of the best kinds of books there is out there. Liz Davis has taken a much forgotten population and reminded us how much spunk and soul our “over the hill” community still has left in them. This is one of the most heartwarming and joyous holiday books I have ever read, and the satisfying warm fuzzy feelings it gives you are the most uplifting I have ever gotten from a Christmas book. I loved this one. Liz is one of my favorite authors, and once again she didn’t disappoint. I think this one might just be one of my favorite holiday reads ever. 5 stars.

Thank you so much to Liz Davies, Rachel Gilbey from Rachels Random Resources for a copy of this book for my honest and unbiased opinion.

Blog Tour & Review – Playing With Fire by Billy Hallowell

Playing With Fire

by Billy Hallowell

Publish Date September 8, 2020

by Thomas Nelson

About the book

What is our fascination with the other side?

Join investigative reporter Billy Hallowell as he delves into the strange phenomena of supernatural activity. Themes of demonic possession have overtaken Hollywood, with countless films and TV shows delving into the age-old struggle against evil. Why?

Yet, with so much focus on the topic there seems to be very little public knowledge and discussion about the real-life nature and reality of demons.

In many foreign countries, however, supernatural activity is often recorded and discussed

  • Government officials watch a nine-year-old boy walk up a wall
  • A sheriff hears a demonic voice over his radio
  • Doctors witness a child exhibit extra-human strength

It’s no surprise international media took note. Quite often, though, many people remain silent about their experiences or resort to quietly whispering about what they’ve seen, heard, or felt for fear of being labeled insane or crazy.

The truth is, even pastors, priests, and clergy who have observed firsthand accounts of possession and deliverance can succumb to the strange and terrifying effects of intense spiritual warfare.

For people of faith, Playing with Fire will address these core questions:

  • Are demons active today?
  • If they do, indeed, exist, what are they? Are they fallen angels? Nephilim?
  • Can demons inhabit human beings?
  • If they exist, what can be done to stop them?

Playing with Fire will explore the theological underpinnings surrounding demonic forces. Relying on firsthand accounts, newspaper reports, and Christian experts, Billy Hallowell will take readers through the various views and perspectives surrounding supernatural activity.

My thoughts

Ghosts? Demons? Exorcisms? Well, this certainly is the month to read about them, thats for sure. Pull on your big boy pants and get ready for an in depth look at spiritual warfare from investigative journalist Billy Hallow and prepare yourself for some hair raising case studies that will make you thinks twice about good and evil.

Billy Hallowell takes us into one of the most curious subject there is delving into the topic of the reality of demons and demonic activity in the real world. He takes an interesting perspective on the topic, stripping out the Hollywood hype and getting down to the nitty gritty using a spiritual and Biblical approach. Utilizing real case studies and well documented information from experts, Billy breaks it down using Biblical and Christian perspectives to make a valid explanation that good and evil does exist in this world.

This is one of the most interesting and straight forward books I have ever read. I have always been a skeptic on the subject, even though I have been a Catholic all my life. But Billy takes faith and Christianity and correlates it with the real life documentation of these spirits/demons and makes one heck of a case that all these things might actually be real. In the end, you really need to develop your own opinion, but the author gives you one heck of a starting point to delve into the research yourself. Quite the curious and thought-provoking read. Perfect for the Halloween season.

I just would like to thank Billy Hallowell,, TLC Book Tours and Thomas Nelson Publishing for the gifted copy of this book for my unbiased and honest opinion for review.

Cover Reveal – The Summer of Lost and Found by Mary Alice Monroe

I am absolutely thrilled to be partnering with Gallery Books, author Mary Alice Monroe, and Suzy Approved Book Tours to reveal the amazing cover to Mary Alice’s new upcoming book releasing May 11, 2021.

Mary Alice’s books are always incredible, so take a look…..

Here is a little about the book:

The “authentic, generous, and heartfelt” (Mary Kay Andrews, New York Times bestselling author) Beach House series returns with this tender and compassionate novel following the historic Rutledge family of Charleston South Carolina. Together, they face a summer of upheaval and change with perseverance, a spirit of unity, and a dose of humor. So that by summer’s end, they discover unexpected joys and lessons that will endure long past one season.

The coming of Spring usually means renewal, but for Linnea Rutledge, Spring 2020 threatens stagnation. Linnea faces another layoff, this time from the aquarium she adores. For her—and her family—finances, emotions, and health teeter at the brink. To complicate matters, her new love interest, Gordon, struggles to return to the Isle of Palms from England. Meanwhile, her old flame, John, turns up from California and is quarantining next door. She tries to ignore him, but when he sends her plaintive notes in the form of paper airplanes, old sparks ignite. When Gordon at last reaches the island, Linnea wonders—is it possible to love two men at the same time?

Love in the time of coronavirus proves challenging, at times humorous, and ever changing. Relationships are redefined, friendships made and broken, and marriages tested. As the weeks turn to months, and another sea turtle season comes to a close, Linnea and the Rutledge family continue to face their challenges with the strength, faith, and commitment that has inspired readers for decades.

In The Summer of Lost and Found, Mary Alice Monroe once again delves into the complexities of family relationships and brings her signature “sensitive and true” (Dorothea Benton Frank, New York Times bestselling author) storytelling to this poignant and timely novel of love, courage, and resilience.

Blog Tour – One Family Christmas by Bella Osborne

One Family Christmas

by author Bella Osborne

Publish Date October 15, 2020

Blog Tour

Here is a little about the book:

A big family. A whole lot of secrets. A Christmas to remember…

This year, Lottie is hosting one last big family Christmas at the home she grew up in – just like her Nana would have wanted.

But when her relatives descend on the old manor house, Lottie gets more than she bargained for. Every family has its secrets, but in this family, everybody has one!

So, between cooking a Christmas dinner, keeping tensions at bay and a stray dog out of mischief, she has plenty on her plate and not just misshapen sausage rolls and a frozen turkey. And then her first love shows up – nine years after he walked out of her life.

Can Lottie make their last family Christmas one to remember… for the right reasons?

Review

Ok, who let Bella Osborne sit in on our family Christmas gatherings? I don’t even remember her being there. Seriously, I swear she had to have written this book as a compilation of all our holiday get togethers. I bet, when you read this one, you’ll feel the same way about your family too, and you’ll go looking through all the holiday photos to see if Bella is hiding somewhere taking notes.

So this wonderful read is about Lottie trying to gather her family together for one last Christmas at Manor House before it is sold after Nana Rose’s recent passing. Of course with all the family coming, it doesn’t help that Lottie really cant cook. With a crazy diverse group of people, a stray dog, an ex-boyfriend, a un-defrosted turkey and tons of family secrets, this holiday gathering brings a ton more to the table than just a family reunion.

Tons of quirky characters, a multitude of unexpected arrivals, heaps of blunders, and gobs of surprises, Bella Osborne has written one of the most amusing and playful Christmas books that I have read so far. It’s pretty much everyones family gathering smushed into one big story. It’s heartfelt, entertaining, mysterious and rewarding all in one read. I absolutely loved this book. If you are thinking covid is going to affect your holiday gathering this year, don’t fret. Stay safe, social distance, minimize this year and get all your family gathering thrills just by reading this book. You won’t have to clean up afterwards either! (BONUS)

Thank you so much to Bella Osborne, Rachel Gilbey from Rachels Random Resources and Avon Books for my gifted copy of this book for my honest and unbiased opinion.

Here is a little about the book:

The only thing preventing Beth’s perfect family Christmas? Her family!

Television presenter Agatha Holly has built her career on telling viewers how to have the perfect Christmas. A Holly Jolly Christmas has been screened every December for twenty years and her entire family are involved, including her daughter Beth—the unwilling star of a thousand memes and gifs. But Beth has finally had enough of public ridicule. All she’s ever wanted is a traditional family Christmas away from the television cameras. If she can’t persuade her family to change, should she consider celebrating Christmas without them?

Review

If you take anything away from this review, I hope it’s the same thing I did….. I hope you find yourself singing “You Make It Feel Like Christmas” by Gwen Stefani all day long with a huge smile on your face. Yep, I said it, I really did, not only is this book a fun read, but its an earwig too!!! (I know you’re singing it already).

So all Beth Holly wants is to celebrate a traditional Christmas. That’s all she wants. But growing up ‘Beth Holly’ has not allowed her to have your “traditional family holiday” because she is the youngest daughter of The Holly Family, you know, from Britain’s longest running Christmas show “Holly Jolly Christmas.” As this years program starts prepping to shoot, Beth decides she needs out and goes on the run. The family, faced with the need for drastic changes for the tv show to keep it alive and follows Beth making things into a “reality show.”

That’s just the main story, I didn’t even get into telling you about Beth’s ex-boyfriend and his brother, their drama, and how the two stories intermingle. The whole thing is a Christmas romcom roller coaster and one heck of a fun ride. You get absolutely all of your favorite things about Christmas packed into this story with completely likable Beth, 2 hot guys, and all the family drama you could ever ask for, and then you still walk away with a smile on your face. A smile, and singing “You Make It Feel Like Christmas” for the next 3 days.

I really liked this book, it was a fast, enjoyable and entertaining read just perfect for getting yourself into the holiday mood, or even to read during the Christmas season to accompany all the cozy holiday feels. I would definitely recommend.

Thank you so much to Louise Marley and Rachel Gilbey from Rachels Random Resources for my gifted copy of this book for my honest and unbiased opinion.

Here is a little about the book:

Australian Chloe spends her Christmas in a sleepy village in Oxfordshire, England. She is totally star-struck when she discovers who lives across the road.

Lucy, who has jetted off to snowy Colorado for her dream-come-true white Christmas, is taken into the fold of Jules’s loud and brash family, discovering more about herself in a few short days than she has in years.

And Jules leaves the cold climes of Colorado to spend her Christmas on a beach with Chloe’s friends in Melbourne, finding that time away is just what she needed.

The only thing better than one Christmas romance is three, and this wonderful festive novel is perfect for fans of Sarah Morgan, Holly Martin and Karen Swan.

Review

Another sweet Christmas read coming your way, this one publishing on October 16, and I had the pleasure of reading it early! Call it an early Christmas gift!

This is a sweet and fun holiday read that centers around three friends that have known each other since they were 11, and continue to holiday together frequently. Chloe, Jules and Lucy each longing for their ultimate Christmas experience, decide to swap locations for the upcoming season. Chloe heads to Oxfordshire England for her traditional English Christmas, Jules heads to Melbourne Australia to spend the holiday on the beach, and Lucy travels to Breckenridge Colorado to have the snowy white Christmas she’s always wanted. Spending the holiday with your “friends” hometown friends and family becomes quite the Christmas adventure for each one of the girls.

With 3 different story lines we travel with each of the girls to their new destinations and watch them celebrate 3 different family holiday traditions. Filled with so much festive spirt, each one of the girls learn so much more about the meaning of Christmas, family, and even about themselves.  PLUS each one of them find romance along the way. This is a heartwarming and cozy read that engrosses you immediately and leaves you completely enchanted. All 3 of the girls are likable, (and so are all 3 of the guys). I am so ready for the holiday season after this book and now I need to go and spend it in each one of these locations. I really enjoyed this brilliant and festive holiday romance.

Thank you so much to Sandy Barker, Rachel Gilbey from Rachels Random Resources, and One More Chapter for my gifted copy of this book for my honest and unbiased opinion.

Blog Tour & Review – Once Again by Catherine Wallace Hope

Once Again

by Catherine Wallace Hope

Publish Date October 6, 2020

by Alcove Press

About Once Again

An imaginative, emotional debut novel for fans of Ann Patchett about one woman’s fight to save her daughter from repeating a deadly fate.

What if you had one chance to save someone you lost?

Isolated in the aftermath of tragedy, Erin Fullarton has felt barely alive since the loss of her young daughter, Korrie. She tries to mark the milestones her therapist suggests–like today, the 500th day without Korrie–but moving through grief is like swimming against a dark current.

Her estranged husband, Zac, a brilliant astrophysicist, seems to be coping better. Lost in his work, he’s perfecting his model of a stunning cosmological phenomenon, one he predicts will occur today–an event so rare, it keeps him from being able to acknowledge Erin’s coinciding milestone.

But when Erin receives a phone call from her daughter’s school, the same call she received five hundred days earlier when Korrie was still alive, Erin realizes something is happening. Or happening again. Struggling to understand the sudden shifts in time, she pieces together that the phenomenon Zac is tracking may have presented her with the gift of a lifetime: the chance to save her daughter.

Unable to reach Zac or convince the authorities of what is happening, Erin is forced to find the answer on her own, Erin must battle to keep the past from repeating–or risk losing her daughter for good.

Praise

“Simultaneously a suspenseful and action-packed thriller, a meditation on grief and loss, and an examination of time and memory, Hope’s debut is not to be missed.” —Booklist

“Though any mother would wreck the world to save her child, Erin must literally obliterate time to rescue hers. A chilling and visceral thrill ride that will both break your heart and lift your soul.”   —Janet B. Taylor, author of Into the Dim

Gripping, gut-churning, and heartfelt—full of lost and last chances.”   —Max Gladstone, co-author of This is How You Lose the Time War

My thoughts

No words. OMG seriously, NO WORDS. (And you know that is not normal for me).

I am struggling to write this review because I really don’t know what to say. It was one of those books that was so gripping, unique and powerful that I’m still trying to process my feelings. So…. I am just going to make this easy. This book is amazing. You have to read it, I’ve never read anything like it.

It’s about Erin Fullarton, who is trying to come to terms with the loss of her daughter, 6 year old Korrie. Estranged from her scientist husband, she takes every day the best she can, but she can’t get over the loss of Korrie and the mistakes she made on that fateful day her daughter went missing.
In the meantime…side story…Zac, Erin’s husband is a brilliant astrophysicist, perfecting a model of a cosmological phenomenon that will effect time. A project that just happens to be occurring today, on the 500th day since Korrie went missing. (Do you see where this is going?)
Oddly, when Erin receives a phone call from the school, exactly like the one she received when Korrie disappeared, and time starts to flash back to that fateful day, Erin realizes that this may be related to the project Zac is working on, and she may have been given a chance to change her daughters fate. Unable to reach Zac, Erin decides to deal with this anomaly on her own to keep the past from repeating itself.

Ok so don’t let the science fool you. This is not a sci-fi kind of book, there is just some science incorporated into it to make this brilliant idea come to life. If you’ve ever wanted to go back and change the past, Catherine Wallace Hope has written an ingenious book that gives you a glimpse of what that experience might entail, and the challenges and decision making involved. It’s a suspenseful family life drama, that kept me up all night, and made my emotions run amok. I loved it. I was so engrossed I read it in one sitting. I almost wish I could read it over again just to re-experience the anticipation of turning every page to reach the conclusion. I absolutely loved this book and I highly recommend it. It’s not like any domestic/family life fiction you’ve ever read before.

I just would like to thank Catherine Wallace Hope,  Suzanne Leopold of Suzy Approved Book Tours and Alcove Press for the gifted copy of this book for my unbiased and honest opinion for review.

Here is a little about the book:

The book that started it all! A classic retro romcom from #1 bestselling author Shari Low.

1999.
Carly Cooper is 30, single, and after coming close to saying ‘I Do’ to six different men, she’s wondering if she accidentally said ‘goodbye’ to Mr Right.
But there is a problem.
Her ex-boyfriends are scattered all over the world and Carly lives in 1999; an era before Facebook, Google, smartphones, 4G and Broadband, when it was impossible to track people down with a few clicks of a mouse.
On a mission to discover if she walked away from her ‘happy ever after’, Carly quits her job, her flat, her whole life and sets off on a quest to track down all the men she has ever loved.
Her Mr Right is out there, but can she find him?
And what if he’s moved on from the ex-girlfriend who said goodbye? A wonderful classic 20th-anniversary re-release.

Review

Happy 20th anniversary Shari Low and What If!

20 years ago this is the book that started it all, and now Shari Low is celebrating with an anniversary reprint of this amazing read. WHAT IF? is the novel that launched the career of the now bestselling author of 25 books who is a go-to a favorite among many readers.

If you grew up in the 90’s this romcom is for you. In 1999 thirty year old Carly is still unmarried and alone. Thats not to say she hasn’t had her chance, as she came close to marrying to six different men. Still spouseless, she wonders if she missed her opportunity with one of her previous loves. Ready to find out, Carly quits her job and sets out to find all the men she’s ever loved. Problem is, they are strewed all over the world, and she’s still living in a non-internet/smartphone era, so finding them is not as easy as we are now accustomed.  Can she find her Mr. Right?

This book is centered completely in the 1990’s which was a huge flashback for me. I had so many memories and laugh out loud moments while reading this, that at times I felt like Carly could be me. Those certainly were the days. With multiple pop culture references to the era, and the typical ‘single woman at 30’ drama you’d expect, Shari Low certainly started her career with a triumphant debut. It’s no wonder she’s got 25 novels under her belt already.

If you are looking for another heartwarming, nostalgic and giggle til you wiggle kind of book, WHAT IF? Is definitely for you. I absolutely loved this read, as I do with all of Shari’s writing and I highly recommend it if you are in need of a quick feel-good kind of read. Oh and the cover reprint….. fabulous!!

Thank you so much to Shari Low, Rachel Gilbey from Rachels Random Resources, Boldwood Books, and Netgalley for my gifted copy of this book for my honest and unbiased opinion.

Excerpt:

I speak to Callum, Michael and my closest friend, Kate, every day. Sometimes it’s for two minutes, other times it’s for two hours, depending on the excitement or trauma of the day. Yes, my phone bill’s high, but it’s cheaper than therapy and wine is allowed.

Since the onset of my official midlife crisis, they’ve been on the wrong end of many of my ‘how did I get this life?’ conversations. The thing is, I don’t understand why we weren’t properly prepared for reality when we were young. We were bombarded by propaganda about how girl meets gorgeous guy and they ride off into the sunset together. No one ever tells you men are like knickers – after a time, they get grey and washed out and they can have a tendency to fall down when you least expect it. Or, even worse, you find a perfect pair that you love, only to discover that your shape is changing and they don’t fit any more, no matter how much you try to pull them up.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a bitter and twisted man hater. On the contrary, I love them. Perhaps a little too often, granted. Sweeping confession coming up. I’m just going to blurt it out and get it over with. I’ve been engaged to be joined in the holy vows of matrimony no fewer than four times and had two further near misses, before I pulled on my Reebok high tops and did a runner. Metaphorically speaking, of course. If you ever see me jogging, you can be pretty sure it’s because someone is chasing me with a weapon.

It’s just come to me that I could form an ex-boyfriend five-a-side football team, complete with substitute. I realise that to some my serial chucking may seem a tad unstable, heartless, cruel or indecisive, but it was none of these. No, it was down to optimism. You see, no matter how great the guy was, no matter if he was loving, faithful, made me laugh, and set my knickers alight, there was always some incident of conflict or disaster. Whereupon, instead of persevering and trying to make it work, I ended the relationship before careering headlong into the next fiasco. I was just always sure that the next romance would be the perfect one – one that wouldn’t require work, compromise or sacrifice on either side. Naiveté and optimism won the day, time after time. And look where that’s got me.

The ringing of the phone stops me from slipping deeper into my abyss of self-reflection. I reach for the green handset with the big white buttons that hangs on my wall. The company I work for issued us all with a high-tech mobile phone a few years ago, but the accountants get twitchy if it’s used for personal calls, so it usually languishes at the bottom of my briefcase, the perfect place to ignore it when it rings. My boss has started typing inspirational and nagging messages on his and sending them to us. Why, oh why, are those text thingies necessary? Whoever invented that little method of communication needs to have a serious word with themselves.

Blog Tour & Review – The Rescuer by Jason Sautel

The Rescuer

by Jason Sautel

Publish Date September 1, 2020

by Thomas Nelson

About the book

He helped save people every day—but he had no idea how to save himself.

Jason Sautel had it all. Confident in his abilities and trusted by his fellow firefighters, he was making a name for himself on the streets of Oakland, California. His adrenaline-fueled job even helped him forget the pain of his childhood—until the day he looked into the eyes of a jumper on the Bay Bridge and came face to face with a darkness he knew would take him down as well.

In the following months, a series of traumatic emergency calls—some successful, others impossible-to-forget failures—drove Jason deeper into depression. Even as he continued his lifesaving work, he realized he could never rescue everyone, and he had no idea how to save himself.

In the end, Jason was forced to confront the truth: only the relentless power of love could pull him back from his own deadly fall. Action-packed, spiritually honest, and surprisingly romantic, The Rescuer transports readers inside the pulse-pounding world of firefighting and into the heart of a man who needed to be broken before he could finally be made whole.

My thoughts

You all know I am a health care professional and I have automatically been drawn to any books or stories that deal with the topic, so it was a no brainer that I would want to read THE RESCUER by Jason Sautel.

Being a memoir of sorts (with names and dates changed to protect the innocent) written in the first person, you are going to immediately feel like you are right there with Jason, on the calls, the rides, in the homes of burning fires and the aftermath of gunfights, and it feels SO REAL. You are inside Jason’s head the entire time, not only seeing what he is seeing, but feeling his emotions and perceiving his senses. This book is an open doorway into what it is like to be a first line responder. But thats not all it’s about.

This book is about the responder himself, Jason, and the personal internal battles and demons he had to constantly fight and suppress on a daily basis to continue to do his job. We never really take into consideration that these heroes get up and go into these unknown circumstances every single day actually have personal lives that they are dealing with outside of work. Jason tells us about what he is battling internally as he goes to work every day, and how he needs rescued himself, but is unsure on how to do it. Eventually, as he progresses into darkness, he is forced to confront the monster inside in order to save himself.

This book resonated with me on a personal level. There is a wall we build up as health care professionals in order to be able to continue every single day, to not let the tragedies and fatalities we see, hear, and smell affect our every day life. It’s a fine line. Jason shares that in this book, he shows you the lows we hit when we go home from work every day, and he shares the restorative path he found in order to make himself whole again. It’s a stunning debut, heartfelt and emotional. Once you pick it up you won’t put it down until finished, and no matter what you do for a living, it is also an inspirational read to get on the path of rescuing yourself. Cause right now we all could use a little bit of relief.

I just would like to thank Jason Sautel, TLC Book Tours and Thomas Nelson Publishing for the gifted copy of this book for my unbiased and honest opinion for review.

Review – Christmas Ever After by Karen Schaler

Christmas Ever After

by Karen Schaler

Paying it forward, Karen is donating a percentage of each book sold to help support libraries and independent bookstores.

About Christmas Ever After

• Paperback: 396 pages
• Publisher: Hawktale Publishing (September 29, 2020)

From Karen Schaler, the writer of the Netflix phenomenon A Christmas Prince and Hallmark’s Christmas Camp comes this new heartwarming holiday romance. Mamma Mia meets The Bachelorette in Christmas Ever After…

While promoting her next novel, a Christmas love story, author Riley Reynolds is caught off guard when she’s asked during a live national television interview how she can write about romance when she still hasn’t found “the one” herself. Scrambling for an answer, she quickly answers that she has had great love in her past and that love inspired her novels. Little does she know that this one offhanded remark will turn her world upside down. Three of her ex-boyfriends see the interview, and each, believing she’s talking about him, shows up for her Christmas Camp book event at the Christmas Lake Lodge, determined to rewrite his happily-ever-after with her! Over the festive weekend, Riley’s old boyfriends compete to win her heart, pulling out all the stops while planning the most romantic Christmas dates on the planet. Despite herself, Riley starts falling for each guy- again-but for different reasons. As Riley revisits each relationship and discovers more about herself, she embraces the magic of Christmas and finally finds true love and her own Christmas ever after…

Bonus Content: Christmas Ever After includes delicious original Christmas recipes and fun holiday crafts and activities.

My Thoughts

A new book by Karen Schaler? Of course, sign me up. The queen of holiday romance, dubbed “Christmas Karen” by the press, has finally released her newest holiday read on 9/29, and I’m thrilled to have gotten a copy.

Author Riley Reynolds is writing a “suggested by her publisher” Christmas book to win back her readers after her last book tanked. Problem is, Riley hasn’t celebrated Christmas since she was 8 years old, and knows nothing about a traditional Christmas. When she’s caught off guard in an interview, Riley leads the pubic to believe that her writing inspiration is “the one that got away,” but unfortunately thats not true.
When 3 of her ex boyfriends who heard her interview, show up at her book event at Christmas Lake Lodge, Riley has a whirlwind weekend as each one of them try to win her back. Having feelings again for each one, Riley starts to discover more about herself, about Christmas magic, and what she wants for herself. Does Riley finally find true love? You have to read it to find out.

Looking for holiday warm fuzzies? Go no further. CHRISTMAS EVER AFTER is the epitome of the holiday romcom novel.  Karen Schaler has given us the cozy Christmas feels once again and she nails it. Riley is the frustratingly quirky and adorable lead character with all the drama that we love to read about. She has a supporting cast that is easy to fall in love with bringing their own drama to the story as well. The Christmas Camp festivities at the lodge gives you all the “feelies” you’re looking for, making you want to pack your bag and head there yourself, and the heartwarming and sweet ending lets you close the book smiling. This is your Hallmark Christmas movie in book form, no kidding. I will always read anything Karen Schaler writes, because she makes me feel like everything is right in the world, at least when I’m reading.

This is a 5 star read and I highly recommend it and all of Karen’s Christmas books.

Thank you to @karenschaler @traveltherapy, and @tlcbooktours for the gifted copy of this book for my honest and unbiased opinion.

Here is a little about the book:

How can Mia find happiness?

Lawyer Mia’s picture-perfect dream life in New York is imploding. Her job has become too stressful, she’s exhausted from carrying her friends and what’s up with her striking, wealthy fiancé?

But when life-changing decisions force her to move to Maine, where she’ll face her often critical father and hard truths about what truly matters in life, she re-discovers a passion of her youth.

What begins as a low moment in her life quickly pushes her to consider what she genuinely wants and leads her down a new path where she must embrace the future and let go of the past.

Will this move help Mia to fix her life, once and for all, and will she finally find true love?

Review

Want a quirky kinda romcom read that checks all the boxes?
I Don’t Do Mondays is exactly what you are looking for.

A quick and fun read, we learn about Mia with her stupid decisions and Carlton her privileged user jerk of a boyfriend who unenthusiastically proposes, and Mia is gullible enough to accept. When Mia flies home to Maine to actually STOP her parents from attending her wedding, she hits a low point and faces some hard truths and is forced to examine herself and what she really wants out of life.

With a crazy ensemble of friends and family, and the romcom twists and turns that we all love, Colette Kebell has written another page turner of a novel that is one kooky ride. I really enjoyed reading this and hated to say goodbye when it ended. I gotta say this is a must read for the romcom lovers.

Thank you so much to Colette Kebell, and Rachel Gilbey from Rachels Random Resources, for my gifted copy of this book for my honest and unbiased opinion.

Colette Kebell is an author of Chick-lit/Romcom, though a relatively new one and thus far has self-published her books. Her books are light-hearted, fun and quirky and even considered by some to be inspirational.  She has also found avenues to translate both into Italian (thanks to her husband), and into French, Spanish and Portuguese via Babelcube.

As a career, Colette spent her later years as a legal secretary. After a first attempt at writing many years ago (a book that still remains in her drawer) she resumed this passion a few years back, after being made redundant.  After a few book signing events and a book talk, which almost caused her to collapse with nerves, Colette now spends her time between her home in the UK and her home in France.

Colette has two adorable dogs and spends some time, when not writing and marketing her books, cooking for herself and her husband, gardening or designing various items for their home.  Amongst her other hobbies, she has also experimented with furniture upholstery, and she might, from time to time, have a paintbrush in her hand.

She can be found on twitter @ColetteKebell though doesn’t tweet a vast amount.

Review – Dear Child by Romy Hausmann

Dear Child

by Romy Hausmann

Publish Date October 6, 2020

by Flatiron Books

About the book

From #1 international bestseller Romy Hausmann comes DEAR CHILD (Flatiron Books; on-sale 10/6/20), a page-turning new thriller that begins where others end when a young woman flees the shack in the woods where she’s been held captive…only to emerge into a new kind of nightmare.

In the windowless shack, Lena and her two children live isolated and circumscribed lives, forever at the mercy of their captor, “Papa,” who tells them when they can eat, sleep, and relieve themselves. When a rare opportunity arises, Lena escapes with her small but preternaturally perceptive daughter, Hannah, and together they bolt through the woods toward freedom and an uncertain future.

Matthias has been searching for his daughter since her disappearance more than 13 years ago. Lena has been missing for 4,825 days when he receives a call saying she’s finally been found, and it feels like nothing short of a miracle. But at the hospital, Matthias is shocked by what he finds and can’t reconcile the woman in front of him with the daughter he lost so many years ago. Have time and trauma altered Lena beyond recognition? Or is something much darker at play?

As Matthias grows increasingly paranoid and unhinged, Lena is tormented by nightmares of the shack and wonders if she can ever truly be free. And Hannah, for her part, seems to know more than she is letting on.

Dark, twisty, and brilliantly plotted, DEAR CHILD is a psychological puzzle-box of a thriller that will keep readers riveted—and desperately trying to put the pieces together—until the very last page.

Praise

“Equal parts mystery, thriller and family story…[A] tantalizingly disturbing debut…the overall experience is as enthralling as it is thought-provoking. Hausmann creates a dark solar system studded with twinkling stars… At the core of Dear Child is the constant hope that characters will be drawn back to people who mean the most to them, no matter how far apart they’ve been pulled. That glint of optimism is the light guiding readers as they fly through this book.” ―New York Times

“A nightmarish and high-tension Gone-Girl-meets-Room thriller.” ―Parade

“Perfect for fans of Room and The Water Cure.”
Bustle, Best Books of Fall 2020

“This chilling, clever mystery begins where most suspense stories end: with the escape…Deliciously creepy…deftly crafted and keeps you guessing until the very last page.” ―Real Simple

“Dear Child is a chilling, original and mesmerizing work. Hausmann is a force to be reckoned with. You can’t stop reading.”  ―David Baldacci, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Memory Man

“If you only read one thriller this year, choose this one. Room meets Gone Girl in this gripping novel, which will haunt you long after the last page. Deliciously dark, original, and beautifully written, I loved this book.” ―Alice Feeney, New York Times bestselling author of Sometimes I Lie

“There are so many twists – all of them shocking…As unsettling as they come, this outstanding debut…is recommended not only to [Room] fans, but also to those who enjoy true crime, as the verisimilitude here is second to none. The movie can’t be far behind.” Booklist, starred review

“Outstanding debut…The multiple points of view and numerous plot twists sustain the breakneck pacing, but the books’ real power lies in the author’s insightful and sensitive portrayal of the characters involved in the tragedy. This darkly disturbing thriller definitely marks Hausmann as a writer to watch.” Publishers Weekly, starred review

“I didn’t even try to figure out whodunit. I just kept turning pages, wondering what the hell was going to happen until I had finished the book in one sitting, in the small-numbered hours of the late night.” BookPage, starred review

My thoughts

This was another one of my most anticipated reads for this fall and I was so grateful when CM from @flatiron_books responded to my begging request back in May to an advanced copy. Let me tell you right now, it did NOT disappoint.

Held captive in a cabin by a controlling man, Lena finally gets a chance to escape and flee with her daughter Hannah. When found and taken to the hospital, Lena’s father Matthias who has been holding on to the hope of finding her for years, cannot accept that this woman could be his daughter. As Lena continues to be haunted by the past and Matthias becomes unhinged about finding the truth, we question: is Lena really who she says she is? And how much does the small Hannah know, and why does she continues to be elusive?

Dear Child starts off immediately as a page turner. {I have to laugh because for me it was more like a ‘screen tapper’ since I was reading digital, and hopefully enough people will read this review and we can coin the phrase ‘screen tapper’ for future use in reviews. (I call dibs)}. But seriously, this book is so captivating from the start, your entire day is going to be consumed with the race to the ending. The amount of twists and turns in this story puts all other thrillers to shame, and just when you think there can’t possibly be anything else Romy Hausmann can throw at you…duck, because here comes the kitchen sink. This is probably one of the most unpredictable and ingenious books I have ever read, and as Hausmann’s debut, she has broken into the psychological thriller genre in an explosive way and has set the bar at a phenomenal level. All other authors beware.

This is hands down a 5 star read for me and I highly recommend it to all my thriller lovers, AND to everyone else out there –  even if you aren’t much of a reader…..this one will convert you. Brilliantly done. Put this on your list and/or preorder it now. Publishes October 6, 2020.

I just would like to thank author Romy Hausmann, Flatiron Books, Netgalley and CM at Flatiron Books for the gifted copy of this book for my unbiased and honest opinion for review.

P.S.  With a little research, you will find that Romy’s second book was published in Germany in April.  Its title in German “Marta schläft” is “Marta is Sleeping” in English.  Hopefully Flatiron will pick it up here in the USA and we will see it soon. Crossing my fingers.

Review

What a charming and delightful read by Portia Macintosh. And the book cover, WOW have you seen how absolutely beautiful cover that is? I definitely would have grabbed this book after just seeing that cover, not to mention that it was written by the brilliant Ms. Portia MacIntosh.

Sadie is an assistant for Damien, a famous photographer. Her duties include some of the most demeaning of menial tasks ever assigned to anyone. Probably the only thing she enjoys most about her job is the post-it note exchange she has with the unseen coworker Adam who shares her desk on the days she is not there, (and who could possibly be a potential love interest). But when Sadie’s unhappiness with her work causes her to find another job, she keeps it hidden from her boss Damian, planning to break it to him after the holiday. But THEN Damian ends up inviting himself along to spend Christmas with Sadie’s holiday obsessed family, and the this holiday ends up creating a lot more than your typical Christmas cheer. You have just got to read it to find out.

This wonderful laugh out loud holiday read is one of the sweetest romcoms I’ve read in a while. You can’t help but fall in love with Sadie and completely connect with her on a personal level. You will quickly find yourself wrapped up into this story and fly through it because you can’t wait to see what happens next and how on earth this crazy tale turns out. It’s the perfect book to start to get you into the Christmas mood, and Portia Macintosh has proved once again that she knows how to keep her readers happy and coming back for more. I highly recommend this book and all of Portia’s writing. What an entertaining and pleasurable read.

Thank you so much to Portia MacIntosh, Rachel Gilbey from Rachels Random Resources, Boldwood Books, and Netgalley for my gifted copy of this book for my honest and unbiased opinion.

Excerpt:

It doesn’t matter how many times you break up with someone, it never gets any easier, does it?

While I’m not actually sure whether or not there is a good way to break up with someone there are, without a doubt, a million terrible ways to do it.

Dumping someone by text – that has to be the worst one, right? Text, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, or any other kind of written digital communication is about as low as you can go. The absolute coward’s way out. And, sure, a phone call is better than a text but only in a similar way to how a broken finger is better than five broken fingers.

Break-ups must always be done in person, that’s just the way it is – they should probably make it the law, which might sound extreme, but I’m sure it would cut down on a whole host of angry follow-up crimes. I know a guy who got his car windscreen smashed after breaking up with a girl over e-mail – and I’d be tempted to say he deserved it.

Still, it’s not enough to simply say it to a person’s face, you have to say it right. If you’re wanting to do it as gently as possible there are many little sayings you can reach for. A classic ‘it’s not you, it’s me’ is a fine example. It’s a way to take full responsibility without saying anything negative about your dumpee – of course, we all know if it were true you wouldn’t be breaking up with them in the first place, but still, it’s a way to do it without actually telling the other person what you think is so wrong with them that you don’t ever want to see them again.

‘I think we’re better as friends’ or ‘I don’t want to ruin our friendship’ are other ways to try and edge away from things being romantic. Who the hell stays friends with an ex though, seriously? I honestly can’t think of anything worse than trying to stay buddies with someone who has seen me naked. While we’re making these break-up laws, perhaps we should draft something about how exes have to cease to exist, or at the very least move to a different country, after a break-up. I’m sure the world would be a much better place if we could all agree on that.

If I ever decide to get out of the art business and wind up in politics, I’ll start some kind of Ex-it movement where, if you want to leave a romantic union, one of you has to go and live abroad or something.

‘Hi, Sadie.’ I hear a bright, excitable voice coming from behind me. It snaps me from my thoughts. I was miles away. I guess I’m so used to sitting in noisy bars these days I don’t find it all that hard to let my mind wander.

I turn around to hug someone who clearly has no idea they are about to get dumped. This one is going to be an Ex-it Remoaner, I can tell.

‘Hello,’ I say with an equal, although completely put-on, enthusiasm. ‘Take a seat, I’ll grab us a couple of drinks.’

As I gently push my way through the crowd in the busy Belgravia bar I’ve been drinking alone in for the past thirty minutes it does cross my mind whether or not I’m doing the right thing, but the more I think about it, the more I don’t feel as if I have any other option.

So I buy our drinks, I sit down at the table, I take a deep breath and I give one of my break-up speeches – perhaps my best one yet. I allow myself to think this might actually be a straightforward break-up, until…

‘But things were going so well.’

Oh, God, I can’t handle those sad eyes. I was deluded to think this would be fine, because there’s always a ‘but’…

‘I know they were,’ I lie. I shift uncomfortably in my seat. ’It’s just, you know, things are so busy with work, as I said – no one has time for relationships at the moment.’

‘But we have to make time, otherwise no one would have relationships at all, no one would have kids, the human race would die out!’

I mean, what can I actually say to that? I’m kind of over a barrel. On the one hand, things are really hectic at work. On the other hand, working in the art industry is hardly comparable to people like doctors and firefighters who work crazy hours and still find time to have families. I’m going to have to change strategy.

‘It’s not you,’ I insist.

‘Oh, come on, don’t give me that. How often do we women have to hear that bullshit?’ she replies with a roll of her eyes.

Blog Tour & Review – The Ancestor by Lee Matthew Goldberg

The Ancestor

by Lee Matthew Goldberg

Publish Date August 20, 2020

by All Due Respect Publishing

About the book

A man wakes up in present-day Alaskan wilderness with no idea who he is, nothing on him save an empty journal with the date 1898 and a mirror. He sees another man hunting nearby, astounded that they look exactly alike except for his own beard. After following this other man home, he witnesses a wife and child that brings forth a rush of memories of his own wife and child, except he’s certain they do not exist in modern times—but from his life in the late 1800s.

After recalling his name is Wyatt, he worms his way into his doppelganger Travis Barlow’s life. Memories become unearthed the more time he spends, making him believe that he’d been frozen after coming to Alaska during the Gold Rush and that Travis is his great-great grandson. Wyatt is certain gold still exists in the area and finding it with Travis will ingratiate himself to the family, especially with Travis’s wife Callie, once Wyatt falls in love. This turns into a dangerous obsession affecting the Barlows and everyone in their small town, since Wyatt can’t be tamed until he also discovers the meaning of why he was able to be preserved on ice for over a century.

A meditation on love lost and unfulfilled dreams, The Ancestor is a thrilling page-turner in present day Alaska and a historical adventure about the perilous Gold Rush expeditions where prospectors left behind their lives for the promise of hope and a better future.

The question remains whether it was all worth the sacrifice…

“Lee Matthew Goldberg is an animal–there is no other way to say it. His prose is heavyweight ambitious, as visceral as a sweaty-toothed dog at your throat. He evokes Robert Louis Stevenson as much as he does a modern thriller novelist. And I’ll be honest: I expected a crime novel, but I got a spell-binding epic, an epistolary revelation, a tale as rich as a paying gold mine. –Matt Phillips, author of Countdown and Know Me from Smoke

“In The Ancestor, Lee Matthew Goldberg masterfully weaves together a story involving family and violence set against the backdrop of an unforgiving Alaska of both past and present.” –Andrew Davie, author of Pavement and Ouroboros

“From the icy opening battle of man vs. wolf, you feel yourself in the hands of a master storyteller and that feeling never lets up.” –SJ Rozan, bestselling author of Paper Son “This thrilling novel is rich in descriptions of the vast, snowy, and deadly wilderness of Alaska; it ably captures the type of person who chases gold.” –Foreword Reviews

“A story that blends the familiar and the supernatural in a manner that calls Stephen King’s work to mind. That said, Goldberg’s book possesses a flavor all its own–a distinctive mélange of the sincere and the strange.” –Kirkus Reviews

“Beautifully written, and capturing the unforgiving grit of Gold Rush Alaska, Lee Matthew Goldberg’s The Ancestor is a thrilling page-turner with an ache in its heart. I’m a huge fan.” –Roz Nay, author of Hurry Home and Our Little Secret

“One of the year’s best thrillers. Blake Crouch fans will love Goldberg’s Alaskan opus.” –BestThrillers.com

“A suspenseful historical thriller.” –Indie Reader

My thoughts

This has been one of may most anticipated reads of the fall and I am so glad to have been asked to review it.

Wyatt wakes up in the Alaskan wilderness confused and not sure who he is, but upon meeting a man named Travis hunting nearby who looks exactly like him, he has a flash of memories return. What he realizes is that he is from the 1800’s and that he has been frozen since the Gold Rush era, and that Travis is his great-great grandson. Certain that gold is still in existence in the area, Wyatt sees finding it with Travis as a way to win good graces into the family, most notably with Travis’s wife. Wyatt’s obsession with finding the gold, discovering why he was able to be preserved for over a century, and his infatuation with Travis’s wife makes for an intriguing read.

This truly was a page turner for me. I was driven by the idea of a person traveling through time as a result of being frozen (I mean if Megatron can do it in Transformers, why can’t we, right?).

With the blend of thriller, some supernatural aspects, a ton of mystery, and a mix of other genres that are thrown in there to give some more flavor, this book was like nothing I have ever read before. You will be captivated by the Alaskan history and the Gold Rush era, as well as completely taken by both Wyatt and Travis’s lives and personalities. All the different side stories throughout the book are brilliant and they eventually all come together in the end to a paramount ending.

This was a very unique and thought provoking book that will stick with you long after you read it. My anticipation was merited! Give this one a read and stick with it. I know you will feel the same.  Oh and by the way….. this is listed under “movie tie in” category on Amazon, so, um,……. HINT HINT.

I just would like to thank Lee Matthew Goldberg, TLC Book Tours and  All Due Respect Publishing for the gifted copy of this book for my unbiased and honest opinion for review.

Here is a little about the book:

Coming Home to Hope Street

Step across the cobblestones, pull back the curtains and peek behind the doors in the second instalment of The Hope Street Series. Catch up with old friends and fall in love with new ones in a story of friendship, second chances and new beginnings.

Livvy has no choice but to return to Hope Street, the childhood home she left over twenty years ago. Along with her sixteen-year-old daughter, Pip, she turns up on the doorstep, hoping for forgiveness from her sister.

Hannah thought she’d never see Livvy again. She’s overwhelmed with emotion but locks away her real feelings. How could Livvy stay away without any contact? And why has she come back now?

It isn’t long before the charm of the market town of Somerley begins to work its magic. Hannah is opening a book shop in the square, adjoining The Coffee Stop, and Livvy’s offer to help out brings the sisters closer together.

But when someone from Livvy’s past arrives unannounced too, he threatens everything she’s built up since her return. Can Livvy convince her sister, and her new friends, that her intentions to return were good ones? Or will her dreams of settling down and being happy again become nothing but a closed book?

My Thoughts

COMING HOME TO HOPE STREET is the highly anticipated second installment in the Hope Street Series and I couldn’t wait to get ahold of it since I reviewed the first book THE MAN ACROSS THE STREET way back in April.

You know from my review of the first book that I absolutely loved the town and the characters and was waiting with bated breath to get ahold of follow up. I knew I was going to love it. Once again, I was right.

Remember, this may be a book 2, but it can still be read as a stand alone. You will have no problems enjoying the book if you haven’t read the first, but I know you will enjoy it even more if you have.

We are back on Hope Street with all our old friends. Hannah and Doug are there and we continue with their saga, but the main story revolves around Hannah’s sister Livvy who has finally returned home. Livvy (and her 15 year old daughter) arrive in Somerley reluctantly after 20 years of being away and not able to manage on their own any longer. The relationship between the sisters isn’t easy but they attempt to reconnect. Just when it seems Livvy and Hannah are on the right track to recover their sisterly bond, someone from Livvy’s past arrives in Somerley, threatening to wreck everything she’s worked so hard to establish since her return. Will she be able to stay on Hope Street and settle down, or will her newfound happiness be swept away? You will have to read it to find out.

Another breath of fresh air for Marcie Steele. If you aren’t already in love with Hope Street from book 1, there is no way this second installment won’t suck you in. The ideal neighborhood, there is no place I would rather live than in Somerley on Hope Street. There is the excitement of the community and small town drama with the charm of the heartwarming human stories each of the characters bring to the narrative. Steele has written another heartfelt and exhilarating read that wraps you like a warm cozy blanket and doesn’t let go. I don’t want the Hope Street blanket to ever leave my shoulders, PLEASE let there be another installment to this beautiful tale. A 5 star read. I highly recommend this series.

Don’t miss this intriguing second installment of the Hope Springs Series.

My Thoughts

October can’t come quick enough.

SHOW ME THE WAY is the second installment in the Hope Spring Series by Ashley Farley. This book can be read as a stand alone, but I guarantee if you start with this one, you will want to go back to read the first book, hands down – no question.
If you’ve read the first installment, and have been patiently waiting for the second, you’ve only got one more week until publication and I promise you, there will be absolutely NO DISAPPOINTMENT. NONE. NADA. ZIP.

So let’s get into this.

Book 2 starts off just a few months after DREAM BIG STELLA! (Book 1), back at Hope Springs Farm. We have the return of all our beloved characters with the addition of 2 significant members: Presley and Everett, who take center stage in this installment.

After the death of her adoptive mother, Presley is following a lead to find her birth mother that lead her to Hope Springs. While staying at the Inn she meets Everett, a bartender who just moved to the area. There are immediate sparks between the two, and when Presley is offered a job at the Inn for a much needed position, she figures she has nothing to lose. But as her relationship with Everett progresses, she is convinced he is hiding something. Everett is hiding out at Hope Springs while attempting to harness his emotions after some shocking news. While he grows closer and closer to Presley he realizes he is going to have to reveal his past in order to get to the future.

Just when you think there is nothing Ashley Farley can do to make the Hope Springs Series any better, she releases SHOW ME THE WAY. The addition of our 2 new characters and the blending of their story line with the continuation of Stella’s narrative brings a delightful spin to this already captivating tale. Within the first few pages you instantly drawn in and completely absorbed in the story, and the book instantly becomes unputdownable. (I finished it in one sitting). The truth is you just can’t get through the book fast enough. Ashley Farley casts some type of bewitching spell on her readers every time she writes, and SHOW ME THE WAY is no exception. She is the truly a master of women’s fiction.

I am chomping at the bit for the 3rd and final installment of this series, MISTLETOE AND WEDDING BELLS which comes out on the 27 of October, and although I can’t wait to find out what happens next, I will be a wreck when the series comes to an end.

Ashley Farley has nailed it again.  5 stars.

Thank you to @ashleyfarleyauthor #leisuretimebooks and @katerocklitchick for my gifted copy of this book for my honest and unbiased opinion for review.
