Here is a little about the book:

The perfect house, the perfect husband and the perfect life… or is she just faking it?

Life has been a bit of a rollercoaster for Ella. Growing up as the ‘less successful’ identical twin to her ‘perfectly successful’ sister, Emma, has left her feeling isolated, inadequate and let’s face it.. a little bitter.

When Emma unexpectedly reaches out to Ella in a time of need, Ella suddenly finds herself with the opportunity to fill in for her sister and experience how the other half live.

But as Ella navigates the world of gossiping mothers, rebellious teens and trying to play the model housewife (not to mention avoiding the temptation of attractive men at the school gates…) will she discover that all is not always as it seems on the other side?

Discover the brilliantly funny new romantic comedy from top 10 bestseller Portia MacIntosh. Perfect for fans of Mhairi McFarlane, Sophie Ranald and Lindsey Kelk

Review

Alright, are you looking for a laugh out loud, fun and lively romcom to take the winter blues away? I’ve got one right here from one of my favorite Boldwood authors, Portia MacIntosh.
Check this out….

Let’s see, first you start your apartment on fire, next you get evicted (even though the fire wasn’t your fault) and then get sacked from your job, all of this in the same day. Sounds like things are starting off pretty well huh? (note sarcasm) Then your twin sister who you’ve scarcely seen in years calls (you know, that twin who just “has it all” and is totally put together) and asks you to do her a favor and “take her place” for the next 6 weeks at her house because she needs to go away for a while without anyone knowing……what exactly would you do?

Well that’s exactly what happens to Ella, and when her twin sister Emma makes that call, Ella completely agrees to the plan. I mean how hard could it be to live the high life and take care of a niece and nephew she doesn’t even know? Easy peasy right? Not so fast……

There are no words to explain what a total delight reading this book was for me. Between the laugh out loud moments of Ella’s mishaps, the enchanting new “friend” Marco, the capricious teenagers she is now “mothering,” and the “Yummy Mummy Mafia” (don’t even ask), this book has got it all. Through this journey of misadventures, watching Ella find her way and figure herself out just ends up being the icing on the cake. Such an entertaining and satisfying read, I guarantee you won’t be able to put it down once you start, and when you do, I’m certain those winter blues will be gone.
Highly recommend!

Thank you so much to Portia MacIntosh, Rachel Gilbey from Rachels Random Resources, Boldwood Books, and Netgalley for my gifted copy of this book for my honest and unbiased opinion.

Although she’s convinced her methods will lead to Miles popping the question faster than she can say ‘I do’, Alex’s friends warn her it will end in disaster. But a little bit of hint dropping can’t hurt, right?

Some thoughts…..

Check out the COVER of @ospringauthor upcoming novel WHEN’S THE WEDDING coming out March 25th, 2021.

I’m not sure if you’ve read any of Olivia’s books, but you can take my word for it that they are absolutely superb romcoms, she certainly has the niche for this kind of storytelling. I am so anxious for this one to come out, especially because it will be released right at the start of spring and wedding season.

If you don’t grab this one just for the romcom, you gotta get it just cause our protagonist is a Dog Hotel marketing manager!! Dog Hotel!!! Come on guys!!

And besides, this cover is gorgeous, and we all know that most of us just pick up books because we love the cover. I think this one fits that category quite well.

Happy Reading and always Be Nice.

Here is a little about the book:

It’s time to pack your bags and head to the breathtaking, snow-covered peaks of the Swiss Alps for velvety hot chocolates, delicious cheeses and a gorgeous love story…

Food technician Mina has always believed that chocolate will solve everything – and it’s just what she needs when her latest relationship mishap goes viral!

So with her bags packed and a new determination to sort her life out, Minna decides to drown her sorrows with the best hot chocolate in the world at her godmother’s cosy Swiss chalet. Chocolate: yes. Romance: no. Until she has a run in on an Alpine train with a mysterious but oh-so-gorgeous stranger…

Review

Ahhh, the Snowy Swiss Alps. Somewhere I’ve never been but hope to visit someday. Then again all I need to do is wait a day or two and this huge blizzard with 6-15 inches of snow will descend upon us here in northern NJ and I can just pretend. Thank god I just went to Costco and got chocolate bombs! Ok, I digress. Let’s talk about this wonderful friendship fiction book by Julie Caplin and the 7th addition to her Romantic Escapes Books (all of them can be read as stand alones) called THE LITTLE SWISS SKI CHALET.

Well, Mina decides to head to her godmother’s Swiss Chalet after a rather embarrassing and viral mishap with her now ex-boyfriend for some much needed time off. Being a food lover just like her godmother there is no better place for her to relax and regroup than to indulge in the wonderful food and surroundings in Switzerland. But when Mina literally stumbles into a gorgeous man on the train, and then finds that the same gorgeous specimen of a man is staying at the chalet – causing her female spidey senses to tingle – Mina immediately fights her attraction because dealing with another man right now is absolutely NOT what she needs in her life. Yet Mina can’t seem to evade the allure of the delicious food, enchanting setting and handsome stranger she is starting to get to know, and quite possibly might just find that the one thing she doesn’t want in her life is exactly what she needs.

This is such a delectable read, and believe me I mean that in more ways than one. The food in this story is beyond mouthwatering, and the characters are absolutely darling. I absolutely loved reading this book and Minna is so much like me that sometimes I wonder if it’s that all of us are just so alike in life and none of us really ever realize it. This was my first read of Julie Caplin’s Romantic Escapes books, and if they are all as darling as this one (and continue to give me the sense of visiting a place I’ve never been) then I will certainly be reading them all. Add the 6 previous books to my TBR! A little romance, a little escapism and a lot of enjoyment make this a must read (especially during times like these). Highly recommend.

Here is a little about the book:

When Isabelle Darby moves to the delightfully cozy village of Lower Dimblebrook, she’s searching for peace and quiet as well as a chance to escape from heartbreak. After making friends with Fiona Lambourne, another newcomer to the village, Issie is left reeling when tragedy strikes and Fiona is murdered, the second wife Anthony Lambourne has lost in unfortunate circumstances. And if that wasn’t bad enough, the local gossips insist that Fiona had been embroiled in an affair before her death, something which Issie knows not to be the case.

Determined to clear her friend’s reputation and solve the mystery of the rumours, Issie takes on both the gossips and the handsome but stern DI Wainwright, making both friends and enemies along the way!

Review

Hallmark Movies & Mysteries fan? If you are, I’ve got one heck of a perfect cozy for you. This one is so good I really think Hallmark should pick it up and make it into a movie, it would transfer to the screen so well, and I’ve already casted Lacey Chabert as Issie.

Just in case Hallmark doesn’t take my suggestion, you need to pick this one up if you are a murder mystery lover, it checks all the boxes! Deadly Whispers in Lower Dimblebrook by Julie Butterfield is her first cozy mystery, and it is also the first in the Isabell Darby Cozy Village Mystery Series.

Issie has moved to the quaint little village of Lower Dimblebrook to get away. With her relationship failed, she just wanted to be in a place where nobody knows her past and she could start again. Not knowing anyone in Lower Dimblebrook, she befriends Fiona one day, another newcomer to the village. Fiona and Issie become fast friends and confidants, so when Fiona is found murdered one morning, Issie is beside herself. The small little village is full of gossip, and the rumor is that Fiona had been cheating on her husband, Anthony Lambourne, the son of the wealthy Lambourne family and heir to the Lambourne Estate. Issie insists that Fiona was madly in love with her husband and wasn’t cheating, but no one believes her, not even DI Wainwright who is working the case.  So she sets off to find out the truth and quash the rumor, clearing Fiona’s reputation, hopefully solving the mystery of Fiona’s murder before DI Wainwright finds out she is snooping around.

An absolute page turner from page one, Julie Butterfield has successfully written the start to what is bound to be a brilliant mystery series. The characters in Lower Dimblebrook are delightful, and Issie is an exemplary protagonist. There is more to mystery in this one as we slowly start to find out why Issie has moved from the big city, and the spark of a relationship with the attractive yet “disturbing” DI Wainwright looks as if it could turn into something more. I absolutely loved this charming mystery and look forward to reading Book 2 in the series, which was fortunately released last month. I think Ms. Butterfield may have just found her niche in Lower Dimblebrook. Highly recommend, I’d love to see this onscreen!

Thank you to Julie Butterfield and Rachel Gilbey from Rachels Random Resources for the gifted copy of this book for my honest and unbiased review.

About the Author

Julie Butterfield belongs to the rather large group of ‘always wanted to write’ authors who finally found the time to sit down and put pen to paper – or rather fingers to keyboard

She wrote her first book purely for pleasure and was very surprised to discover that so many people enjoyed the story and wanted more, so she decided to carry on writing.

It has to be pointed out that her first novel, ‘Did I Mention I Won The Lottery’ is a complete work of fiction and she did not, in fact, receive millions in her bank account and forget to mention it to her husband – even though he still asks her every day if she has anything to tell him!

The Silver Rose Dating Agency

Here is a little about the book:

When lonely widow Kitty Merriweather moves to Derbyshire’s Hope Valley, she joins the Silver Rose online dating site because it offers a safe place for the over sixties to find romance.

There, she meets the enigmatic Harvey, a scientist working on a conservation project in Bali who promises her “hot days and stormy nights.”

Love blooms quickly but Kitty breaks all the rules laid down by the agency, putting herself at risk. When little things don’t add up she dismisses them as being unimportant. Nothing matters more than her plans for them to live happily ever after.

When she confides in her new friend, Edna Reid, octogenarian and former café owner, Kitty gets angry at Edna’s implication she is likely the victim of a scam. The more Edna hears about Harvey, the more she is convinced he’s only interested in Kitty for her money.

Using her knowledge of computers Edna finally uncovers the truth, but where does black magic and murder fit into this intriguing cosy mystery?

Review

Oh my goodness, what a totally cool cozy mystery series.
The Silver Rose Dating Agency (formerly titled Love Bytes Back) is book 2 in the Peak District series. It is completely a stand alone book, but it carries over some of the same characters from Peak District. Based on our beloved elderly population, these quirky characters really know how to get themselves into some predicaments, and it’s a real treat watching them navigate 21st century technology.

This sweet novel centers around Kitty Merriweather, a sixty year old who is a recent widow and has just moved from their home in the city to the family estate to retire, as she and her husband had originally planned. Kitty decides to attempt online dating and gets involved with a man that her new friend Edna insists is shady. (He’s asking for money and Kitty is actually sending it!). When Edna starts to dig into the internet and try to find out who this “scammer” is, she starts to think he may actually be closer to home than expected, and may possibly even be one of the residents of the village. With a strange rash of crazy things suddenly going on in the community, and then suddenly a murder occurs, can Edna figure out what the heck is going on in Hope Valley?

I don’t think you can meet a better cast of characters here. There is nothing like a fast paced, intriguing cozy mystery with the elderly population as your main cast. It’s like watching a Golden Girls episode where the ladies try to solve a mystery…..there is absolutely nothing better. These unconventional and winsome characters make this cozy mystery one very original read that is lively and amusing. This is one series to keep on your radar. A must read if you love cozies.

The Perfect Guests by Emma Rous

The Perfect Guests

by Emma Rous

Publish Date January 12, 2021

by Berkley

About The Perfect Guests

The USA Today bestselling author of The Au Pair returns with another delicious, twisty novel—about a grand estate with many secrets, an orphan caught in a web of lies, and a young woman playing a sinister game.

1988. Beth Soames is fourteen years old when her aunt takes her to stay at Raven Hall, a rambling manor in the isolated East Anglian fens. The Averells, the family who lives there, are warm and welcoming, and Beth becomes fast friends with their daughter, Nina. At times, Beth even feels like she’s truly part of the family…until they ask her to help them with a harmless game—and nothing is ever the same

2019  Sadie Langton is an actress struggling to make ends meet when she lands a well-paying gig to pretend to be a guest at a weekend party. She is sent a suitcase of clothing, a dossier outlining the role she is to play, and instructions. It’s strange, but she needs the money, and when she sees the stunning manor she’ll be staying at, she figures she’s got nothing to lose.

In person, Raven Hall is even grander than she’d imagined—even with damage from a fire decades before—but the walls seem to have eyes. As day turns to night, Sadie starts to feel that there’s something off about the glamorous guests who arrive, and as the party begins, it becomes chillingly apparent their unseen host is playing games with everyone…including her.

Book Blurbs

“A richly atmospheric time-slip mystery with the pulse of a thriller, The Perfect Guests is deliciously evocative and absolutely spellbinding. Set up like a game of Clue, the story alternates between two narratives, one in the past, the other in the present, each chapter winding the tension higher as you discover the pieces you need to solve the puzzle. With vividly drawn characters, gorgeous prose, and an electric sense of place and time, I was sucked in from the very first page. [A] fun and immensely satisfying treat!”—Christina McDonald, USA Today Bestselling Author of Behind Every Lie

“Anyone yearning for a page-turning gothic story with a big house – and a shocking family secret – at its heart should gatecrash The Perfect Guests immediately.”—Eve Chase, author of The Daughters of Foxcoate Manor

“As seductive but secretly treacherous as Raven Hall itself, this novel delivers devour-in-a-day diversion.. Rous has upped her game with this one.”—Publishers Weekly

“The reader must carefully shuffle the puzzle pieces into a perfect fit until the very end and one more visit to Raven Hall, when the entire board is undone. This is a party suspense fans are advised to crash.”—Booklist (starred review)

“Clever and engaging. Rous creates the ultimate house party mystery. A room full of strangers—or
are they? Whispers of an old tragedy—or is it? An elaborately plated dinner—until one by one the guests fall ill. Old secrets and new dangers collide in this deliciously thrilling tale.”—Lisa Gardner, #1 New York Times bestselling author

“I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed getting to know Allie and her friends . . . A Mysterious Mix Up is a quick and easy cozy mystery.” —Christy’s Cozy Corner

My thoughts

Here I am again with another cozy mystery, and yes this one is also part of a series. I know its cliche for me to keep saying “I found another cozy series to read,” but I can’t help it, I really did find another series to read!

Allie Cobb is my kind of girl. She’s smart, she loves animals, and she works in books. She’s living back in Rushing Creek Indiana, her hometown, and when she’s not working out or walking her cat, you can find her trying to solve another local murder. (Kinda makes you wonder why she would still want to live in this small town, but hey…. to each their own right? Besides, she actually lives in an apartment above a book store…..a BOOK STORE! A few local murders wouldn’t deter me away from those digs either).

In A Deadly Discovery, the fourth in the Allie Cobb Mystery series, a woman’s buried bones are found in the state park nearby. When the mother of a local girl who went missing 20 years ago begs Allie to look into the case, and the bones come back as definitely being her daughters Allie jumps into sleuthing once again. Can she figure out who and why Valerie was murdered ? Hmm…. I guess we will just have to see.

The 4th in a series, which can also be read as a standalone, A Deadly Discovery was a fast paced, enjoyable delight to read. I can honestly say that I had no clue who the murderer was until the reveal, and if I can’t figure it out beforehand, then its a well written book for sure. I am anxious to read the first 3 books of this series and learn more about Allie and the wonderful characters in Rushing Creek. J.C. Kenney has a gold mine with this character, and I foresee nothing but more good books to come in this series.
I definitely recommend picking this one up.

I just would like to thank J. C. Kenney, Suzanne Leopold of Suzy Approved Book Tours, and Beyond the Page for the gifted copy of this book for my unbiased and honest opinion for review.

Review

Let me just start by saying I love this series. I am going to tell you up front that book #3 of the Hedgehog Hollow series is coming out May 4, 2021 and I can’t get a copy quick enough. If you are an animal lover, fan of family drama and an avid romance reader please pick this series up, you will rapidly devour it and love it as much as me.

New Arrivals at Hedgehog Hollow is book 2 in the series but of course can be read as a stand alone. Though all the same characters carry through from the first in the series, picking this one up first will not leave you feeling lost. Jessica Redland does this brilliant recap at the beginning of this book that brings you right up to date without spoiling any of the fine juicy bits. I still recommend grabbing book 1 first, because if you start with book 2 you will only want to go back and read the first one, so you might as well do them in order.

We continue at Hedgehog Hollow where Samantha has now opened the rescue center and is taking in the prickly critters at a steady rate. Sam is still working as a teacher at the nursing school and quickly becomes overwhelmed with working two jobs. Questioning herself and her ability to run the rescue makes her think she’s bitten off more than she can chew, and makes an already busy life much more stressful.
In the meantime her relationship with Josh is flourishing and she is happier than ever, but when Josh’s past starts knocking at the door (literally), he is faced with dealing with his relationships he has worked so hard to leave behind.

With all of this, Sam still has to deal with the continuous harassment from the Grimes Boys, her tumultuous relationship with her cousin Chloe, and the rejection of her mother. Will Sam and Josh’s relationship and the future of the rescue be effected by all the new stressors, or can they find a way to work through it all and move forward?

Heartwarming, cozy, and downright realistic when it comes to family drama, this truly is one of the best series I have read in a very long time. I laughed, I got angry, I cried, and my heart melted all while reading this book. It’s no wonder Jessica Redland has 9 successful novels already, and the Hedgehog series is a delightful addition to her repertoire. It certainly helps that I love hedgehogs too. HEDGEHOGS!!! How can you not love hedgehogs? Highly recommend this 5 star sequel to this delightful and charming series.

Thank you so much to Jessica Redland, Rachel Gilbey from Rachels Random Resources, Boldwood Books, and Netgalley for my gifted copy of this book for my honest and unbiased opinion.

Book Tour & Review – In Persuit of Happiness by Freya Kennedy (with excerpt)

In Persuit of Happiness

About In Persuit of Happiness

The world is waiting…but just outside of your comfort zone.

Jo Campbell is perfectly content in a perfectly structured life.
Nothing ever changes in Jo’s life, and she likes it that way.
Or at least, she tells herself she does.
Most of the time, she manages to push down the tiny voice that tells her to chase her dream and maybe, just maybe, open her battered and bruised heart up to love.
But to chase her dreams she needs to take chances that are way out of her comfort zone and learn to not put other people’s happiness above her own.
Most of all she has to learn to trust her heart, which may just be the biggest challenge of all.

My thoughts

A sweet story of friends, family, finding yourself, and finally taking a chance on romance along the way. Certainly the perfect uplifting romantic read for 2021 that it touts itself to be, and I think its a perfect way to start your new year!

Just published 12/15, Freya Kennedy has written another tale at Ivy Lane in Derry, Ireland, the beloved home of Libby Quinn, the main character in “The Hopes and Dreams of Libby Quinn.” Now you don’t have to read this first book because IN PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS reads as a stand alone story, but it’s nice to reconnect with some of the characters, especially Libby. This tale centers around Jo and her thirst to follow her own dreams, despite wanting to remain in her comfort zone. When Libby sends Jo’s book to a famous writer to “push” Jo to pursue her own writing goals AND Harry’s grandson Lorcan comes to town and sparks an unexpected tingle in Jo’s version of single, will Jo finally venture out of her comfort zone and take a chance?

Of course I adored this book, it had all the cozy feels that I love in a romcom. The village and all the characters are so enchanting, and Jo really makes you realize that its important to follow your dreams. Heartwarming, fun and delightful, I hope Freya Kennedy keeps taking us back to Ivy Lane with more great stories.

I just would like to thank Freya Kennedy, Rachel Gilbey of Rachels Random Resources, Boldwood Books and Netgalley for the gifted copy of this book for my unbiased and honest opinion for review.

Excerpt

Enjoy a short excerpt from In Pursuit of Happiness from Freya and Boldwood Books:

Erin pulled back and sat down. ‘You know we’re catering that private party tomorrow? The engagement?’

Jo nodded. The details of the dinner for thirty being held in the pub’s small but perfectly formed function room were seared in her brain. The bride-to-be was what most people would class as high-maintenance. And the groom-to-be was worse.

‘Well, himself just called and wondered could they add another ten meals to the cover. And four of those ten are vegan, but none of our vegetarian options “sound like something they would like”.’ She rolled her eyes at this. For a small gastro pub, The Ivy Inn’s array of vegetarian and vegan meals was impressive – something Erin was very proud of. ‘So he wondered could I send him a few ideas for them to consider. You know, for the dinner, tomorrow.’ She dug her fork into her brownie with a fierceness that made Jo feel a little scared. ‘I mean… ten more meals and a bespoke menu at twenty-four-hours’ notice! And you’ll have to rework the table arrangements to fit more people in! It’s been one thing after another with these two.’

‘At least it’s only the engagement and not the wedding,’ Jo offered. ‘If they want to book that with us, we can claim to have no availability that day.’

‘Can we not just tell them to stick their extra guests and their bespoke menu up their arses?’ Erin asked, hopefully, but Jo could see that her temper was already subsiding. She knew Erin and the pride she took in her work. She’d make it happen and she’d make the vegan meals amazing, so much so that the couple would probably want to book there and then for the wedding – but they’d cross that bridge when they came to it.

‘If only,’ Jo said with a smile. ‘But you can tell them that our vegan menu has won awards and at this stage it’s not possible to source other ingredients for alternatives.’

‘I can probably work something out,’ Erin said, as she took a second bite of the brownie and made semi-orgasmic noises as the chocolate hit took effect. ‘Who supplies these? They must have a special recipe. I’ve never tasted anything like it.’

‘I can find out for you,’ Jo said, with a hint of a smile on her face. Hurricane Erin had run out of puff and her friend’s mind was already back at work.

‘What would I do without you?’ Erin asked, her smile bright and a little disgusting, thanks to some chocolate brownie stuck between her front teeth.

‘Clearly you’d be horribly miserable,’ Jo said and reached out to give Erin’s hand a quick squeeze.

‘I suppose I’d better get back. Are you on Clara duty tonight?’ Erin asked before she savoured the last bite of her brownie.

Jo nodded. Thursday night was always Clara night. Not that she minded. In fact, Thursday nights were one of her favourite nights of the week. She got to indulge her own inner six-year-old as she immersed herself in her little sister’s world and there were times when that world was much more fun than her grown-up world. ‘But I will be working tomorrow and I’ll be there from early afternoon, so I will be on hand to help you manage the high-maintenance bride- and groom-zilla. It will all be grand. And if it isn’t, we’ll let Paddy lick their cutlery before dinner.’

Audiobook Blog Tour – The House Mate by Nina Manning

Rachels Random Resources presents:

The House Mate – audiobook

by author Nina Manning

published October 15, 2020

Here is a little about the book:

The perfect life? …Or the perfect lie?

When Regi moves into her new house share, she’s ready for a clean slate. A new home. A new routine. A new identity…

Desperate to escape the shadow of her past that follows her everywhere she goes, Regi finds the ideal distraction in the perfect lives of others on social media.

But as innocent scrolling turns into an unhealthy obsession, Regi will soon learn that seeking perfection comes at a price…

A gripping psychological suspense from the international bestselling author of The Daughter In Law. Perfect for fans of Lisa Jewell, K L Slater and Jackie Kabler.

My thoughts

Although having Alexa listen to every word I say is really irritating, it is pretty nice having her in every room so I can listen to my audiobooks wherever I go in the house. I can have her playing in each room and I never have to worry about my headphone charge running low. So yesterday I was able to listen to Nina Mannings latest THE HOUSE MATE on audio while I was getting some housework done.

Speaking of housework, Regi, the main character from THE HOUSE MATE has a problem with OCD and becomes obsessed with Mrs.Clean on instagram. Crazy huh? So is this book by Nina Manning, it’s one heck of a head-spinner.  Told with alternating past and present time lines we learn that Regi is trying to get over her traumatic abusive past and is now living in a home with 3 other women. She is doing everything she can to overcome her fears and obsessions. As a distraction, when she becomes intrigued with a cleanstagram account, her interest becomes more of an obsession and the past and the present collide into a very unexpected psychological thriller ending.

This was a unique twist on the psychological thriller for sure. Regi is a quirky and odd character that you are really trying to like but you aren’t quite sure if you should. The chapters from the past slowly reveal more and more about Regi, but it’s not until the ending when all of the twists and turns of the story come together that you really get the total picture. You will find yourself turning the pages on this one because Nina Manning does a beautiful job of keeping you misled and totally intrigued, and Regi, she’s definitely one to watch.
Listening to this on audio was certainly a treat and I absolutely loved the dialect of the narrator which was perfect for the UK location. There is nothing like an awesome audio version to make a book stand out even more, and Helen Keeley did just that, brilliant work.

Thank you so much to Nina Manning, Boldwood Books, Netgalley Audio and Rachel Gilbey from Rachels Random Resources for my gifted copy of this book for my honest and unbiased opinion.

Book Tour & Review – My Dad My Dog by Rebecca Warner

My Dad My Dog

by Rebecca Warner

Publish Date November 19, 2020

by Black Rose Writing

About My Dad My Dog

When she moves her Alzheimer’s-afflicted dad into the home that she shares with her husband and elderly dog, Rachel Morgan expects some complications – but she never imagines she’ll encounter the biggest one on the first day. Her normally sweet-natured Dad – a former mailman who’s known too many biting dogs – wants nothing to do with her big black Labrador.

But as Rachel attends to the escalating physical and emotional needs of each, she notices striking similarities in their aging processes and realizes that these two souls whom she loves deeply are on the same journey. With time working against her, Rachel must find a way to transform their uneasy truce into a trusting companionship. In doing so, she hopes to make their journey less lonely and frightening, and more bearable for those who someday must let them go.

My thoughts

My dad
My dog

Oh my heart.

There are no words for this book. It is emotional, extraordinary, and in my opinion an essential read.

Rachel Morgan and her husband have done well for themselves. Beautiful home, money in the bank, and her elderly father with Alzheimers being well taken care of at an exceptional facility. But when the housing market crashes and Rachel and David start to lose money, they have to make the hard decision to pull her father out of the facility because they are unable to afford it’s cost any longer.
On the first day at her home, Rachels father makes it clear he wants nothing to do with her beloved elderly black Lab, something she was NOT expecting at all. As Rachel works hard to care for her father and facilitate his needs, she starts to notice some changes in her dog Nick, only to find out that he is deteriorating as well. Watching both her father and her dog travel along the same aging journey, her only hope is to find a way to bring them together as companions to ease their journey through this difficult and disheartening time.

There is no way I can do this any justice. I laughed, I cried, I hugged the book to my chest for a long time when I turned the last page, with tears streaming down my face. Rebecca Warner has shared a necessary read on the difficulties of caring for an elderly parent and an elderly dog at home.
The narrative reads like someone sitting next to you telling a story, it was smooth, effortless and unputdownable. The justice that Warner does to the health care community and the selfless care they give to their patients was spot on, and it makes me proud to be a nurse.
I don’t want you going into this book thinking it is depressing and sad, something we all don’t need right now. Somehow Ms. Warner was able to take a heart-wrenching story and turn it into a touching, poignant and meaningful narrative that is an essential and necessary read for us all. I absolutely loved this book and I highly recommend it to everyone.

I just would like to thank Rebecca Warner, Suzanne Leopold of Suzy Approved Book Tours, and Black Rose Writing for the gifted copy of this book for my unbiased and honest opinion for review.

Blog Tour – Heading Over the Hill by Judy Leigh

Rachels Random Resources presents:

Heading Over the Hill

by author Judy Leigh

published December 3, 2020

Here is a little about the book:

Growing old disgracefully and having a grand old time…

Billy and Dawnie may be in their seventies, but that won’t stop them taking chances or starting again. Their grown-up children have families and lives of their own, so now it’s Billy and Dawnie’s turn, and a life near the sea in Devon beckons.

But the residents of Margot Street (or Maggot Street as Dawnie insists on calling it), don’t quite know what to make of their new neighbours. Billy’s loud, shiny and huge Harley Davidson looks out of place next to the safe and sensible Honda Jazz next door, and Dawnie’s never-ending range of outrageous wigs and colourful clothes, means she’s impossible to miss.

As new friendships are formed and new adventures are shared, Billy and Dawnie start winning their neighbours’ affection. And when life teaches them all a terrible lesson, the folks of Margot Street are determined to live every day as if it’s their last.

Judy Leigh returns with a soul-warmingrib-tickling, timeless tale of true love, true friendship and happy-ever-afters.

My thoughts

Imagine Schitt’s Creek with Johnny and Moira Rose in their 70’s.
Ok, so there’s no financial mess, and they don’t live in a motel, but imagine these outrageous 2 characters retired and moving into your neighborhood.
I know what you’re thinking…. so just pick this one up and read it, because its as wild and fun as you think.

When 70 year old empty nesters Billie and Dawnie decide they want to start over, they pick up and move to Margot Street in Devon near the sea (or Maggot street as per Dawnie’s interpretation). But with Billie’s big noisy Harley and Dawnie’s crazy clothing and exorbitant wigs, the current residents are a little shocked and not sure what to expect. That includes next door neighbors Malcolm and Gillian who are especially mistrustful and suspicious. As the neighborhood gets to know Billie and Dawnie, friendships are made and adventures are had, opening the neighborhood up to a whole new outlook. That is except for Malcolm, and he isn’t standing for any of it. When something terrible occurs that teaches them all a valuable lesson, the neighbors all realize every day is a blessing and it’s time to live and love life to the fullest.

What an absolute fun ride (pun intended). As the cast of characters unfold and we get to know everyone, we see how the arrival of the new and odd neighbors brings everyone out of their comfort zone and opens up a whole new world to Margot Street. Chalked full of underlying “life lessons” that are too many to list, these two crazy and endearing newbies are welcome to be my neighbors anytime. And Drama? Yeah crazy Malcolm brings the drama and attempts to stir the pot (what’s a book without a cranky neighbor?). I absolutely adored this book. All the characters have their own story and the arrival of B&D opens windows and doors for all of them in this stagnant neighborhood.  I think I’ve mentioned before how much I love reading stories with elderly main characters, and this one fits the bill perfectly. I highly recommend this one, its fun and quirky and uplifting. Just don’t go trying to visit them and bring covid into this sweet neighborhood, because I will be livid if anything happens to this cozy community and I will hunt you down like Dog the Bounty Hunter.

Thank you so much to Judy Leigh, Boldwood Books, Netgalley and Rachel Gilbey from Rachels Random Resources for my gifted copy of this book for my honest and unbiased opinion.

Blog Tour & Review – Lie, Lie Again by Stacy Wise

Lie, Lie Again

by Stacy Wise

Publish Date January 1, 2021

by Lake Union Publishing

About Lie, Lie Again

For three women with so much to hide, there’s no such thing as a little white lie…

All three women who live at 1054 Mockingbird Lane have secrets…and with a body at the bottom of their apartment building’s staircase, those secrets need to stay buried.

Sylvia Webb has a plan. And a potential Mr. Right. He’s sweet, simple, and dependably clueless about what she’s up to. The only thing unpredictable about him is his needy ex-girlfriend, who is this close to shattering Sylvia’s dreams. But Sylvia’s not going to let that happen.

Riki McFarlan has a good career and an amazing boyfriend who wants to settle down. If only she didn’t have feelings for her neighbor—who happens to be her close friend’s husband. With everything going so right, why is Riki flirting with something so wrong, so…dangerous?

Embry Taylor is as devoted to her children as she is to her husband, who’s a bartender by night, an aspiring actor by day. She is his biggest fan. But with his career not taking off and tensions high, even sweet Embry has something she’s desperate to keep hidden.

Lies, secrets, and revenge. For three neighbors with stakes so high, someone is headed for a downfall.

My thoughts

Three women, the same apartment building, secrets, drama, friendships, and a dead body at the bottom of the stairs. Need I say more?

Sylvia, Riki and Embry all live in the same apartment complex, and each one of them have moderately good lives. Sylvia is dating a great guy who may just be her Mr. Right, but his bothersome ex-girlfriend keeps getting in the way of her perfect life.
Riki is doing quite well for herself and has a boyfriend who adores her and wants to settle down. Except Riki can’t get over her feelings for her neighbor (who is the husband of her good friend). She has everything going for her but she just can’t let go of this obsession and keeps flirting with trouble.
Embry loves her husband and children more than anything, but with his acting career tanking, the pressure is on and Embry is holding back on a secret that needs to be kept hidden for the good of her family.
Each one of these ladies are more than they appear, and with the apartment complex potentially being sold, all three of them ban together to prevent the sale, but when a body turns up at the bottom of the stairs, all bets are off on secrets being kept.

A delightful women’s friendship fiction with a touch of mystery and suspense. This one hits all the typical female conundrums and obstacles we all have faced at one time or another, with a dead body in the mix. It was a slow start for me but the characters are well developed and draw you in like a moth to a flame. Reading this was kind of like a soap opera with better acting. It’s easy to get lost in each woman’s story and become attached to them, making you forget that we started out with a dead person at the beginning of the book, but then we get to the conclusion, and trust me, how we get there will remind you that women are not to be messed with, don’t let the pretty faces fool you. OH THE DRAMA! If you like the women’s fiction and the mystery/suspense genres, you’ll get a mix of both here with even some good laughs along the way.

I just would like to thank Stacy Wise, Suzanne Leopold of Suzy Approved Book Tours, GetRedPR and Lake Union Publishing for the gifted copy of this book for my unbiased and honest opinion for review.

Perfect for fans of Stephen King and Lee Child

My Thoughts

Ok people sing it with me….. All I want for Christmas is …..a…clue, oooh oooh baby.
Alright, so I know thats not right but I guarantee you still sang it with me. It’s my opening line for you to check out this book. OMG this book……no words, seriously. (Yet somehow below you will find I still mustered some up).

An anthology of short crime stories written by some really awesome and famous authors. Let me tell you, I zoomed through this. Some of these stories…. holy poop! They are going to stay with me forever. Last night I stayed up just thinking of one of them over and over and couldn’t get it out of my head.
Thing is, every single one of them are like that. I’d tell you which ones are my favorites but I can’t, they are all so marvelous. I also have to tell you I picked up some new authors to check out and follow,  on top of purchasing a few more books.  (Like I need more).
I can’t gush about this book enough, its perfect. So for all you crime and mystery lovers who are sick of the mushy made-for-tv holiday books (like the ones I keep reading and posting) this book is for you. Full of crime, intrigue, and some really messed up people, you have got to grab a copy of this NOW. It is so totally worth the read.
Oh and even better, all proceeds from this compilation of stories go to frontline domestic abuse charities, so it’s worth grabbing just for that reason alone.
5 Stars, or should I say daggers?

Thank you to all the authors and Kate Rock from Kate Rock Book Tours for my gifted copy of this book for my honest and unbiased opinion for review.

Book Tour – The Kensington Kidnap by Katie Gayle

Book on the Bright Side Promo presents

The Kensington Kidnap

by author Katie Gayle

published December 2, 2020

Blog Tour

Here is a little about the book:

A missing teenager, a mysterious cult and a case of mistaken identity – just another day’s work for Epiphany Bloom.

Epiphany ‘Pip’ Bloom is down on her luck. She can barely afford cat food, and just because Most has three legs doesn’t mean he eats any less. So she absolutely can’t afford to mess up her latest temp job. But when she walks through the door of the private investigation firm, her new boss mistakes her for a missing persons expert. He then charges her with finding Matty Price – the teenage son of two A-list celebrities – who has mysteriously disappeared from his home in Kensington.

It ought to be a disaster, but Pip reckons it’s actually an opportunity. She’s always been curious (nosy, her mother calls it) and has an uncanny knack for being at the wrong place at the right time (she doesn’t want to know what her mother thinks of that). After years of trying to find something she’s good at, has Pip managed to walk straight into the job she was born to do?

She owes it to herself and poor missing Matty to find out.

But searching for Matty takes Pip into the strange, intimidating world of the rich and famous. And it soon becomes clear that some of these people’s love for themselves doesn’t extend to their fellow humans.

As Pip investigates further, she realises the question isn’t whether Matty ran away – it’s whether Pip will find him alive and make it home safely herself…

An absolutely brilliant, light-hearted cozy mystery for fans of M.C. Beaton, T E Kinsey, Lauren Elliott and Joanne Fluke, featuring an irresistible new heroine.

My Thoughts

Hey guys this is definitely a new series to watch out for. My goodness it was a fun read, and I just know the duo of @KatieGayle are going to make Epiphany Bloom into a cozy mystery sensation and a household name.

When “Pip” Bloom is out of a job and can’t make ends meet, and her mother refuses to be her personal ATM, she knows it’s time to find a job and calls the local temp agency. Although she didn’t leave the temp agency on good terms, they have a client desperate to fill a position and sends Pip right over. When she arrives at a private investigation office and is mistaken for the “missing persons expert” they were waiting for, well, Pip figures “what the heck” and goes along with it. (And she wonders why her relations with the temp agency isn’t agreeable).
When Pip finds out she has been tasked to find the missing son of 2 A-list celebrities, she wonders if she hasn’t walked into the job she was born to do, since she has a tendency to be “curious,” always be in the wrong place at the right time, and she practically studies the celebrity magazines and their twitter accounts. Pip feels she’s gotta find the missing boy in order to find out if this is her destiny.
As she delves into the search it takes her into the outlandish world of the wealthy AND some very unlikable characters. Pip fears she may be lucky to find Matty, let alone find him alive, and she fears for her own safety throughout this crazed endeavor. Will she be able to find Matty AND find herself as well?

What a brilliant debut. This cozy mystery was so much fun and such a page turner. Pip’s character was beyond entertaining and her thoughts and actions are absolutely priceless. There is a captivating mystery to be figured out, and it’s quite a treat watching Pip get through the debacle she’s gotten herself into and try to solve this case unscathed. My cozy mystery readers are going to love this one, and those of you who haven’t tried a cozy yet…this is the perfect one to make you a fan. This is Book 1 of the Epiphany Bloom Mysteries, so there is more to come!

Blog Tour – A Real Royal Christmess by Linda West

Rachels Random Resources presents:

A Real Royal Christmess

by author Linda West

published October 6, 2020

Here is a little about the book:

When the Christmas party psychic said Jess would meet a prince – she didn’t know she meant a REAL prince…

Two opposites find themselves thrown together in a winter paradise when their separate agendas unite them on a strange and daring journey.

Jess is trying to win back her boyfriend, who dumped her for being boring. Jamie is trying to complete his father’s bucket list before he takes the Crown. Both of them are hiding who they truly are, and when the truth is discovered, it’s a real royal Christmess!

My thoughts

A REAL ROYAL CHRISTMESS? Just the title alone is enticing, don’t you think? What could this cozy romcom possibly be about, I mean we all have a ton of our own ChristMESS stories. Well, I promise you, this one gives you all the holiday vibes you are looking for plus plenty of the feel good fun and craziness we all need right now.

Poor Jess. Her boyfriend Colin broke up with her after receiving the promotion she helped him earn, a clairvoyant tells her she is going to marry a Prince, and her BFF Molly wins a magnificent trip to a resort. Can things get any crazier? When Molly persuades Jess to come on the fabulous getaway with her and try to find her “Prince,” Jess reluctantly agrees with one condition: Molly has to make Jess look like she is on the best vacation ever on instagram to show up her ex Colin.
Then there is Jamie, a real life Prince who is on a secret vacation to just be normal for a week and get-away. When he crashes into Jess while pretending he is a master on the slopes, he knocks her out and injures her. Do I have to go on? This disaster of a meeting brings forth a crazy love hate relationship that is unputdownable and masterfully written.

My first Linda West fiction, I am looking forward to picking up some more of her stories centered around Kissing Bridge. This was truly a delightful holiday read that keeps you engaged and turning the pages. Everyone knows I favor the holiday reads, especially the cozy-type romcoms, and this one totally hit the mark and has made it up there on my list of favorites. If you are looking to further your Christmas reading journey, definitely put this one on your list. BTW, there is some amazing food in the story too, so make sure you eat something before you start, or else you will have one heck of a hankering to stuff your face while reading this!

Thank you so much to Linda West and Rachel Gilbey from Rachels Random Resources for my gifted copy of this book for my honest and unbiased opinion.

Blog Tour – Moonlight Over Studland Bay by Della Galton

Rachels Random Resources presents:

Moonlight Over Studland Bay

by author Della Galton

published November 24, 2020

by Boldwood Books

Here is a little about the book:

Moonlight Over Studland Bay

Animal loving Samantha Jones is on a mission to ‘live the dream’.
When best friend Abby has a beautiful baby boy Sam’s priorities change and she realises she wants more from her life
Uninspired with her dull day job Sam plans to expand Purbeck Pooches, her seaside pet sitting business into a full-time career and embarks on a mission to find her perfect man.
Sam soon hits trouble. Her boss accuses her of moonlighting. The perfect man is frustratingly elusive and her parents make a shock revelation.
The odds are stacking up against her but Sam finds that sometimes when you reach for the moon, you get a handful of glittering stars thrown in for free.

My thoughts

Oh this was just what I needed. I am battling a very bad case of a RA flare and boy am I miserable. There is really nothing to do except rest, stay nice and warm under my electric blanket (it soothes my joints) and take some pain meds (which I hate). So there is nothing better than having a quirky, funny, heartwarming romcom/women’s fiction book to keep me company. Thank you Boldwood Books and Della Galton for keeping me cheerful and comforted.

Samantha Jones is ready to make a change. When her friend Abby has a baby, it sparks a fire under her to make more out of her own life. Sam decides she wants to expand her pet sitting business to a full time career and is ready to find the perfect man and settle down. But Sam soon hits a few glitches when her boss from her audio typist job accuses her of moonlighting, the search for the perfect man is more difficult than she expected, and her parents throw a whopper of a revelation into the mix. Will Samantha find a way to fulfill her goals? Will she find her happy ever after? Awe, come on, you can’t possibly think I am going to tell you….. you gotta read the book.

When Trisha Ashley called MOONLIGHT OVER STUDLAND BAY “Utterly uplifting, pure escapism” she nailed it. There’s really not much more to say. The book is laugh out loud funny with unique and lovable characters, and totally unputdownable. Not only does it have one of the coolest titles (I can’t understand why Sam couldn’t find Mr. Perfect in a place called Studland Bay) but the entire book just brightens and perks up your mood and gives you those warm fuzzy feelings you look for when reading a book. I absolutely loved this one and if you need a pick me up and a quick read, grab this one right away. I guarantee you will love it. Undoubtably a 5 star read.

Thank you so much to Della Galton, Boldwood Books, Netgalley and Rachel Gilbey from Rachels Random Resources for my gifted copy of this book for my honest and unbiased opinion.

Book Tour & Review – A Heartfelt Christmas Promise by Nancy Naigle

About A Heartfelt Christmas Promise

• Paperback: 352 pages
• Publisher:
St Martin’s Griffin (September 29, 2020)
• ISBN-13:
978-1250312648

Vanessa Larkin was supposed to be spending Christmas in Paris, France on a business trip she hoped to enjoy as a working vacation. Instead, she’s been assigned to Fraser Hills, North Carolina—home of the Best Fruitcake in the USA—to convert her company’s property into warehouse space and shut down Porter’s, the fruitcake factory. Offering retirement packages and selling locals on new job opportunities may not spread holiday cheer, but Vanessa believes she’s helping secure the town’s future.

Mike Marshall’s family founded Porter’s. For decades, the factory served as the lifeblood of the community until his grandfather sold the business to a Chicago corporation. The sale cost the town its independence—and the Marshalls their family ties. A horse farmer, Mike was never involved with his grandfather’s company, but still felt Fraser Hills lost part of its identity. And as a widower raising a teenage daughter, he’s suffered enough losses in one lifetime. News of the factory’s closing means losing another piece of the town’s legacy.

Far from the skyscrapers and rapid pace of the city, Vanessa finds herself enjoying the easygoing rhythms of rural living. With Mike as her guide, she learns to appreciate the simple pleasures found in shared holiday festivities among friends. Fraser Hills is a town she is growing to love—and Mike
is someone she is falling in love with. Now all Vanessa needs is a Christmas miracle to give her newfound friends and home a gift they’ll cherish for many New Years to come.

My Thoughts

Grab your Snuggie, your warm fuzzy slippers, and your hot beverage of choice, because its time for a Hallmark Christmas movie in a book! You think I’m exaggerating?? No way, this fabulous read A HEARTFELT CHRISTMAS PROMISE was written by none other than Nancy Naigle, who’s already had 5 of her books made into Hallmark movies!!! I’m not kidding. Head to her blog to see the schedule for all of them being aired throughout the month of December.

When Vanessa Larkin is sent to small town Frasier Hills NC for work instead of Paris, she’s not exactly thrilled. Hoping for a mini working vacation, she gets stuck in a nowhere town tasked to shut down a Fruitcake factory and give out retirement packages. Once she gets there she unexpectedly falls in love with the charming town and its quirky townspeople, especially Mike, a widower with a teenage daughter and strong ties to the community. As Vanessa continues to enjoy holiday festivities and making memories in this lovely little community, she finds herself hoping to somehow uncover a Christmas miracle for the townspeople that will sustain them for many more holidays to come.

This is the epitome of a Christmas novel right here, it has all the holiday feels, a little bit of small town drama, some sweet romance, and an ending that makes everyone jump for joy. With a wonderful cast of characters, and a ton of festivities, you are sure to get yourself right in the mood to start some Christmas carols and put up your own tree. It’s no wonder Nancy Naigle has had some of her books already made into Hallmark movies with stories like this. It is truly the heartwarming Christmas read you are looking for to put you in the mood, and will leave you feeling cheery and bright. Highly recommend. There is no way you can’t help but love this one, even if you are the biggest grinch!

Thank you to Nancy Naigle, St. Martins Griffin, and Kate Rock from Kate Rock Book Tours for my gifted copy of this book for my honest and unbiased opinion for review.

Blog Tour & Review – A Frenzy of Sparks by Kristin Fields

A Frenzy of Sparks

by Kristin Fields

Publish Date November 3, 2020

by Lake Union Publishing

About the book

rom the author of A Lily in the Light comes a poignant story of innocence lost and what it means to grow up too fast.

It’s 1965, and thirteen-year-old Gia, along with her older brother and cousins, are desperate to escape their sleepy, tree-lined neighborhood where nothing ever happens. The only thing Gia would miss is the surrounding marsh, where she feels at home among sea birds and salt water.

But when one of Gia’s cousins brings drugs into their neighborhood, it sets off a chain of events that quickly turn dangerous. Everyone will be caught in the ripples, and some may be swept away entirely. Gia is determined to keep herself and her family afloat while the world is turned upside down around her. Can she find a way to hold on to the life she was so eager to leave behind, or will she have to watch it all disappear beneath the marsh forever?

At turns heart-wrenching and hopeful, A Frenzy of Sparks explores a world where survival is the attempt to move forward while leaving pieces of your heart behind.

My thoughts

Are you looking for a book with some real life topics with deep undertones? I have one right here. A Frenzy of Sparks by Kristin Fields is one of those books that will really hit home with a lot of people, and certainly will strike up a wonderful conversation with book clubs, groups and buddy reads.

Told in the perspective of Gia, an eighth grader in 1965 Queens, an age where you are stuck between being a kid and growing up. Gia and her cousins live in a sleepy little town where nothing exciting ever happens. When one of Gia’s cousins brings drugs into the neighborhood, she finds her world completely upended, and is resolved to help her family withstand the residual effects of addiction and crisis.

This book was a slow burn for me, but as the title suggests, there is a nonstop ‘frenzy of sparks’ throughout the novel that just keeps you turning the pages eager for more. It’s a powerful and heavy coming of age story that deals with the onslaught of the heroin epidemic in small town USA. The character of Gia is written brilliantly, as she exhibits perfectly the torn emotions of a 13 year old girl yearning to grow up yet still holding on to childhood. Ingeniously written from Gia’s perspective, this novel is a fascinating read and reestablishes the long term difficulties addiction and the war on drugs can create. Kristin Fields brings out all the heart and emotion felt during a family crisis and captures it well on paper. An intense and poignant read that will stay with you long after you’ve finished.

I just would like to thank Kristin Fields,, TLC Book Tours and Lake Union Publishing for the gifted copy of this book for my unbiased and honest opinion for review.

Cover Reveal – The Mystery of Montague House by Emma Davies

I am absolutely thrilled to be partnering with Middle Distance Publishing, author Emma Davies, and Rachels Random Resources to reveal the amazing cover to Emma’s new upcoming  novel releasing January 14, 2021.

This is Book 1 in the Summer and Wynter Series, so you know there is more to come, I can’t wait for the release.  Take a look…..

Here is a little about the book:

When Summer meets Wynter…

With enough rooms to fill a Cluedo board several times over, Montague House has often been the subject of rumour and gossip. Tales of strange goings on, an owner who disappeared one day and was never seen again, not to mention the treasure that rumour has it lies at its heart… But now the present owner has died and the house is to be sold. It looks as if the opportunity has come to finally settle the stories once and for all.

Clodagh Wynter doesn’t believe in ghostly goings on and tall tales of secrets. She has her feet very firmly on the ground and, tasked with the job of valuing and cataloguing the house and all its contents, she’s simply looking forward to working in such a glorious setting. And if she happens across a priceless painting, well, that’s just icing on the cake.

Andie Summer is a Finder of Things and desperately needs this job; she’s down to her last few tins of baked beans. So looking for hidden treasure sounds right up her street, even if there was something very fishy about the mysterious Mr Mayfair who hired her. Because it’s just like she said to her faithful Basset Hound, Hamish; I saw something out of the corner of my eye as I was leaving, and you know what that means. It’s never good news when I see something out of the corner of my eye…

As the unlikely pair are thrown together, it soon becomes very clear however that they are not the only ones searching for the treasure. And they’re going to need all their ingenuity, resourcefulness, not to mention chocolate biscuits, if they’re ever going to untangle the web of secrets that surrounds Montague House. One that reaches even further than they ever thought possible…

About the Author

After a varied career, Emma Davies once worked for a design studio where she was asked to provide a fun and humorous (and not necessarily true) anecdote for their website. She wrote the following: ‘I am a bestselling novelist currently masquerading as a thirty-something mother of three.’ Well the job in the design studio didn’t work out but she’s now a fifty-something mother of three and is happy to report the rest of her dream came true.

After many years as a finance manager she now writes full time, and is far happier playing with words than numbers. She lives with her husband and three children in rural Shropshire where she writes in all the gaps in between real life.

Blog Tour & Review – When Robins Appear by Densie Webb

When Robins Appear

by Densie Webb

Publish Date October 17, 2020

by Red Adept Publishing

About When Robins Appear

With a lucrative freelance career and a loving family, Deborah Earle has a life many women would envy. But her daughter, Amanda, is heading to college soon, and Deborah worries about having an empty nest. She thinks another child might be the answer. Her husband, Richard, however, may not be willing to start over so late in life.

Amanda is excited about attending NYU next year, but she meets Graham, a handsome older boy, falls hard, and considers postponing her education to stay close to him. Her mother takes an instant dislike to Graham, but Amanda refuses to let her keep them apart.

As Deborah watches her daughter rush headlong toward heartache on an all-too-familiar path, the secrets lurking in Deborah’s past continue to echo in her present. When tragedy strikes, Deborah faces a future she could never have imagined.

My thoughts

Another gripping and unforgettable family life fiction book has consumed my time over the past day and I am hoping you will check it out.

When Robins Appear by Densie Webb is another amazing tribute to the relationship between women, mothers and daughters, and the secrets they keep and the choices they make. Told in alternating perspective we hear from Deborah and Amanda, mother and daughter, both at milestones in their life. Amanda is a senior in high school and is going to be leaving for college soon. Deborah, her mother is struggling with the fact that she is now going to be an empty-nester and possibly needs another distraction, considering having another child. As Amanda meets Graham, a new love, and begins to spend more of her time with him instead of her studies, her mother becomes concerned about their relationship and attempts to try and keep them apart. When an unexpected tragedy occurs, Deborah starts to see secrets from her past start to reflect in her present life, and with much heartbreak, difficult decisions and an unexpected twist, both Amanda and Deborah learn the importance of communication, honesty and acceptance in their relationships and their future lives.

This is an extremely relatable story for any mother-daughter relationship, it’s as if it is taken out of any one of our lives and masterfully put on paper. It’s a tale about everyday life that develops into unexpected drama with characters that are so human and so real I felt like I was right there, in the story with them. Densie Webb’s writing is so captivating that you really don’t even know you are actually reading, but you find yourself just turning pages in rapid succession to find out what happens next, completely consumed by the story. I can’t explain the emotions I felt reading this, because everything felt so real that I found myself overwhelmed at times with just my own feelings (in a good way). This was my first encounter with Densie’s writing, and I will definitely go back and check out her first two novels. If they are as heartfelt and emotional and true to life as this one, I know I am going to love them. This is a beautiful story about mothers and daughters, their relationships, how we hide and keep secrets and how we find a way to work through the problems. I can’t tell you what happens here or I would ruin the whole thing, but what I can say is just read it, this one will stay with you for a while, and you will probably learn a few things from it as well. A beautiful family life drama, 4.5 star rating from me. Definitely recommend.

I just would like to thank Densie Webb, Suzanne Leopold of Suzy Approved Book Tours and Red Adept Publishing for the gifted copy of this book for my unbiased and honest opinion for review.

About Millicent Glenn’s Last Wish

Three generations of women—and the love, loss, sacrifice, and secrets that can bind them forever or tear them apart.

Millicent Glenn is self-sufficient and contentedly alone in the Cincinnati suburbs. As she nears her ninety-first birthday, her daughter Jane, with whom she’s weathered a shaky relationship, suddenly moves back home. Then Millie’s granddaughter shares the thrilling surprise that she’s pregnant. But for Millie, the news stirs heartbreaking memories of a past she’s kept hidden for too long. Maybe it’s time she shared something, too. Millie’s last wish? For Jane to forgive her.

Sixty years ago Millie was living a dream. She had a husband she adored, a job of her own, a precious baby girl, and another child on the way. They were the perfect family. All it took was one irreversible moment to shatter everything, reshaping Millie’s life and the lives of generations to come.

As Millie’s old wounds are exposed, so are the secrets she’s kept for so long. Finally revealing them to her daughter might be the greatest risk a mother could take in the name of love.

“Tori Whitaker’s moving novel…offers a clear-eyed look at how ‘the good old days’ were not always so good, particularly when it came to women’s reproductive health and autonomy. This well-researched and timely novel made me thankful for past generations of women, who, like the titular character, fought hard for the rights I hold so dear today. An impressive debut.” —Susan Rebecca White, author of We Are All Good People Here

“A beautifully told and astonishing tale of the mysterious ties that hold a family together…Rich in detail and imbued with compassion, these characters struggle toward necessary forgiveness of a shocking maternity ward tragedy that feels all too relevant, even today. Whitaker cuts close to the bone from page one!” —Kimberly Brock, award-winning author of The River Witch

“Packed with midcentury nostalgia and Cincinnati local interest, Whitaker’s dual-timeline debut walks a tightrope between a mother’s yearning to be truly known with what makes her eminently unknowable: a desire to protect her daughter that was born of love. Mothers and daughters alike will not soon forget Millicent Glenn’s last wish; they’ll recognize it as their own.” —Kathryn Craft, award-winning author of The Far End of Happy and The Art of Falling

“Readers, meet Millicent Glenn, a tough, savvy lady who has survived many challenges in her ninety-one years. But now she’s facing her biggest one yet…I rooted for Millicent and found the tenderness and complexity of the mother-daughter relationship so lovingly woven through this emotional and gripping story.” —Marybeth Mayhew Whalen, author of This Secret Thing and cofounder of She Reads

“A page-turner…of the lives of three generations of women, spanning the post–WWII baby boom into the modern age. Each has experienced life at a different phase of emerging feminism. As the layered revelation of long-held secrets peels away, these women discover healing for years of misunderstanding, grief, and betrayal…a masterwork.” —Diane C. McPhail, author of The Abolitionist’s Daughter

My thoughts

If I ask you to pick up one book this year by my recommendation, I think this one would be it. I spend so much time reading thrillers, cozies and romcoms, that I forgot how much I liked women’s fiction, the drama and secrets they entail, and how much close to heart they hit when reading them. If you like books along the line of the brilliant Diane Chamberlain and the amazing Kristin Hannah, please do yourself a favor and pick this one up next.

Millicent Glenn is 91 years old this year. She has one wish before she leaves this world, to have her daughter forgive her. When Millicent’s daughter Jane unexpectedly moves back to town, and her granddaughter Kelsey reveals she is about to have a baby, memories from her past flood her mind, and she finally thinks it’s time to tell her own secrets. Hoping that her family can finally accept her truth.

Told in alternating timelines from Millicent’s point of view, this story tells the tale of the bonds of women, motherhood and female relationships. It’s a bold and gut-wrenchingly beautiful tale of what women will harbor, bury, and obscure for the sake of their families. We alternate between Millicent’s life in the 1940’s and 50’s as a married women starting her own family to present day 2015 when she is the golden years of her life, re-evaluating her life and personal decisions. I was drawn in immediately from this start of this novel, and I couldn’t turn the pages quick enough to find out Millicent’s secrets and if her family would accept them when she finally bared her soul. I laughed, I cried, my heart hurt that I couldn’t be there telling Millicent and her family that everything is going to be ok. It is a story of what women are truly made of,  a must read for anyone who loves a good family drama. This book already has 4 stars with over 7 thousand reviews on Amazon, and I also highly recommend it. Tori Whitaker has written a brilliant debut. Without a doubt a 5 star read for me, please pick this one up, you won’t regret it.

I just would like to thank Tori Whitaker,  Suzanne Leopold of Suzy Approved Book Tours and Lake Union Publishing for the gifted copy of this book for my unbiased and honest opinion for review.

Blog Tour & Review – Agatha Arch is Afraid of Everything by Kristin Bair

Agatha Arch is Afraid of Everything

by Kristin Bair

Publish Date November 10, 2020

by Alcove Press

About Agatha Arch is Afraid of Everything

A quirky, nervous wreck of a New England mom is forced to face her many fears in this touching, irresistible novel from author Kristin Bair.

Agatha Arch’s life shatters when she discovers her husband in their backyard shed, in flagrante delicto, giving the local dog walker some heavy petting. Suddenly, Agatha finds herself face to face with everything that frightens her…and that’s a loooooong list.

Agatha keeps those she loves close. Everyone else, she keeps as far away as possible. So she’s a mystery to nearly everyone in her New England town. To her husband, she’s a saucy, no-B.S. writer. To her Facebook Moms group, she’s a provocateur. To her neighbor, she’s a standoffish pain in the butt. To her sons, she’s chocolate pudding with marshmallows. And to her shrink, she’s a bundle of nerves on the brink of a cataclysmic implosion.

Defying her abundant assortment of anxieties, Agatha dons her “spy pants”–a pair of khakis whose many pockets she crams with binoculars, fishing line, scissors, flashlight, a Leatherman Super Tool 300 EOD, candy, and other espionage essentials–and sets out to spy on her husband and the dog walker. Along the way, she finds another intriguing target to follow: a mysterious young woman who’s panhandling on the busiest street in town.

It’s all a bit much for timorous Agatha. But with the help of her Bear Grylls bobblehead, a trio of goats, and a dog named Balderdash, Agatha may just find the courage to build a better life.

Praise

“What do you do when you find your husband in the shed with the dog walker? Take ahatchet to the shed, put on your spy-pants, and see where it all will lead. Kristin Bair’s Agatha Arch Is Afraid of Everything is a fun, funny, and fresh story of resilience to the many betrayals of marriage and middle age.” —Laura Zigman, author of Separation Anxiety and Animal Husbandry

“If Bernadette joined the cast of Dead to Me and moved to New England, the result would be AGATHA ARCH IS AFRAID OF EVERYTHING. With whip smart writing and a quotable line on every page, Bair creates an unforgettable character to act on our most hilariously sinister thoughts. When times are tough, let Agatha Arch have any meltdown you’re repressing in this cathartic and unexpectedly poignant read.” -Michelle Gable, New York Times bestselling author

“A modern moms’-group morality tale with heart to spare, Agatha Arch Is Afraid of Everything is charming, witty, wry, and just wicked enough for any reader to love.” —Sophie Littlefield, national bestselling author of That’s What Frenemies Are For

“Oh, how I loved this book! Move over Eleanor Oliphant—Agatha Arch is here. And she’s the exact quirky, laugh-out-loud, feel-good heroine everyone in the world needs right now.”  —Colleen Oakley, critically acclaimed author of You Were There Too

“If you were a fan of Where’d You Go, Bernadette, you’re going to love Agatha Arch. From the very first page, her voice is a breath of fresh air, fears and all: Even as she reels from life-altering betrayal, our unlikely heroine had me laughing, cheering her on, and hanging on her every word. A highly satisfying read, sure to be one of my favorites of the year.”  —Jessica Strawser, bestselling author of Not That I Could Tell

“What if all of your worst fears came true—and through a hilarious if mortifying turn of events, that was actually the best thing that ever happened to you? Meet Agatha Arch is Afraid of Everything, a singular and relatable story that’s ideal for fans of Where’d You Go, Bernadette. Kristin Bair is a fresh new voice in women’s fiction and I’m already excited to see what she does next.” —Ann Garvin, USA Today bestselling author of I Like You Just Fine When You’re Not Around

“Hilarious and heartbreaking, fresh and wise, and quirky as can be. The talented Kristin Bair introduces us to the touchingly neurotic Agatha Arch—a woman who loves too much and fears too much, and is on the hunt to discover her own singular power. If you love Bridget and Bernadette, please meet Agatha. I loved her, and you will, too.”  —Hank Phillippi Ryan, USA Today bestselling author of The Murder List

“How do you calm your never-ending fears and anxiety? For Bair’s delightful heroine Agatha, trying to get at the truth helps, even if it involves spying on the husband she fears might be philandering. But what she finds instead guides her into solving an even deeper mystery—her own self. “Bair’s gimlet eye and ready wit make this sprightly read as refreshing, necessary, and delicious as summer lemonade.”—Caroline Leavitt, New York Times bestselling author of Pictures of You and With or Without You

My thoughts

Agatha Arch is everything. She is not just afraid of everything, she just IS EVERYTHING. This book is amazeballs, and I totally love Agatha and everything about her.

So Agatha finds her husband in the shed out back having sex with the neighborhood dog walker. This is how the story begins. After Agatha demolishes the shed and gets sprayed by the resident skunk, we jump into her life like a busybody at an old persons convention. We learn that she is an author trying to write a thriller, she loves her two boys more than anything, we learn she is afraid of absolutely everything, (including beans), that she see’s a shrink for all her issues, and we learn that her husband has no desire to a come back to their marriage. When Agatha kinda goes off the deep end stalking her husband and trying to fix the mess her life has become, her neighborhood friends and chat group are generally supportive, until her actions start to get a little “crazy.” Will Agatha be able to pull herself and her life back together?

I absolutely adored this story. Agatha is hilarious and Bair’s writing flows like thoughts coming from my own mind. Our protagonist is a middle aged woman trying to find herself again when thrown into unexpected crisis, and though she gets a little cuckoo at times, I can’t blame her for half of her thoughts and feelings. I mean, who hasn’t wanted to spy on their husband with their new girlfriend? The story is a delight, and a fast read/listen, with laugh out loud moments and heartening life lessons. It is a pleasure watching Agatha find herself again and realize that she is a capable woman with so much to offer. This is hands down a 5 star read for me and I definitely highly recommend. One of those books you just fall in love with and remember forever.

I just would like to thank Kristin Bair,  Suzanne Leopold of Suzy Approved Book Tours and Alcove Press for the gifted copy of this book for my unbiased and honest opinion for review.

Blog Tour – Christmas at the Cornish Confetti Agency by Daisy James

Rachels Random Resources presents:

Christmas at the Cornish Confetti Agency

by author Daisy James

published August 27, 2020

Here is a little about the book:

It’s Christmas at The Cornish Confetti Agency!

When Lexie Harrington is asked to choreograph Phoebe and Sam’s Christmas-themed wedding, she can’t wait to create the perfect winter wonderland – elegantly dressed fir trees, glossy garlands of holly and mistletoe, baskets of yule logs and pine cones, and the mouth-watering fragrance of gingerbread, cinnamon sticks and warm mulled wine floating through the air.

With handsome wedding columnist-cum-fledgling scriptwriter Theo Barker at her side, she’s confident that she can create the perfect festive ambience the bride and groom have been dreaming of since their engagement in the Swiss Alps; no rampant hosepipes, no mechanical mice, no confetti-filled hairdryers.

But this is The Cornish Confetti Agency, and the words ‘plain-sailing’ and ‘hassle-free’ do not feature in the promotional brochure. So, when a much-loved portrait of the groom’s father is adorned with pirate eye-patches and black plastic moustaches, and his expensive cologne is switched for toilet cleaner, Lexie and Theo must once again don their metaphorical deerstalkers and unravel the mystery before the wedding dissolves into Christmas-themed chaos and calamity.

A perfect Christmas wedding?
Is there such a thing for The Cornish Confetti Agency?

A glittery, feel-good story perfect for the festive season, and the third book in The Cornish Confetti Agency series.

My thoughts

Another delightful cozy holiday read by a lovely and entertaining author. This is book 3 of the 5 (so far) Cornish Confetti Agency series, but of course it can be read as a stand alone. I promise you though, if you pick this one up, you will certainly want to binge on the entire set.

Lexie has been filling in at The Cornish Confetti Agency while the owner is overseas, planning and coordinating the perfect weddings for new brides. Although her time at the Agency is almost through she has one last event to organize, a catwalk show for her friend’s wedding shop. But if you know Lexie, you know that things don’t always work out as planned and it seems once again someone is trying to sabotage all of her hard work. (Why does something always have to go wrong?) When Lexie and her boyfriend Theo do some sleuthing to try and find out who is behind all the mischief, it seems everyone involved could be suspect!

An adorable holiday read that has Christmas galore, a beautiful wedding with all the trimmings, and a mystery to be solved by none other than our amateur sleuth Lexie (again). This book has everything you are looking for in a jolly seasonal read allowing you to immerse yourself in ‘melt your heart’ romance, Christmas galore with all the activities, decorations and trimmings, and an unexpected plot twist that keeps you flipping the pages to figure out who is behind all the mischief and mayhem. Daisy James honestly is the master of the cozy romcom mystery, and has captured the essence of the holiday season in this newest installation of The Cornish Confetti Agency. This is truly another enjoyable comfort read that will delight readers of all types.

Get ready to pull out your Christmas decorations now because this one will have you ready to start the merriment ASAP. I certainly enjoyed this book and highly recommend it and the entire series.

Thank you so much to Daisy James and Rachel Gilbey from Rachels Random Resources for my gifted copy of this book for my honest and unbiased opinion.

About the Author

Daisy James loves writing stories with strong heroines and swift-flowing plotlines. She especially likes to create sunshine-filled settings in exotic locations – the Caribbean, Tuscany, Cornwall, Provence – so she can spend her time envisioning her characters enjoying the fabulous scenery and sampling the local food and drink.

When not scribbling away in her peppermint-and-green summerhouse (garden shed), she spends her time sifting flour and sprinkling sugar and edible glitter. She loves gossiping with friends over a glass of something fizzy or indulging in a spot of afternoon tea – china plates and teacups are a must.

Blog Tour – One Kiss Before Christmas by Emma Jackson

Rachels Random Resources presents:

One Kiss Before Christmas

by author Emma Jackson

published November 2, 2020

Here is a little about the book:

A gorgeously romantic festive read from the author of A Mistletoe Miracle, guaranteed to warm your heart this Christmas!

Could it be the start of her happy ever after?

Ashleigh could use a little Christmas magic. She’s still living in Brighton with her Nan — who could give the Grinch lessons in how to be miserable — her acting career has been reduced to playing one of Santa’s elves, and not even the prospect of a friend’s winter wedding can cheer her up…

That is until Olivier, the gorgeous French chef, reappears in her life. Or more accurately, next door.

When they were teenagers, Olivier would spend every other Christmas with his mother, who just happens to be Ash’s neighbour and owner of the best chocolate shop in England.

If anyone can bring a little sparkle back to Ash’s life, it’s Olivier. All she needs is one kiss before Christmas…

Feel-good and festive, this is the perfect romance to curl up with this winter!

My thoughts

Oh this book, such a delight. I am so honored to have gotten to do the cover reveal for you back in September, and now I get to tell you all about it on the official blog tour. I adore Emma Jackson, and I know you will love this one too.

This is your typical “god I need a change in my hum-drum life romance.” We have Ashleigh who lives with her Nan, acting career nonexistent, stuck working as one of Santa’s elves just for a gig, and nothing exciting to look forward to. Then there is Oliver, recently divorced, at a crossroads on deciding whether or not to accept a different job, staying next door with his mother for Christmas. When the two of them meet up, old sparks start to fly and this sweet little romance might just bring them both a the holiday season they never expected.

Who doesn’t love a bit of romance around the Christmas season? This quirky and fun book is just the perfect read to get you ready to start your holiday movie binging. Ashleigh is an extremely relatable character, and is easy to fall in love with, I totally loved her Nan who is also a retired nurse like myself and just made me chuckle. You can’t help but route for Ashleigh and Oliver to finally get together, and this heartwarming and quick read is just perfect for any sweet cozy evening when you are looking for a feel good book. Emma Jackson never disappoints. If you are familiar with some of her other books, don’t be shocked to see some familiar names pop up in this one too! So fun. A great read.

Thank you so much to Emma Jackson, Orion Dash Publishing, and Rachel Gilbey from Rachels Random Resources for my gifted copy of this book for my honest and unbiased opinion.
