Review

Let me just start by saying I love this series. I am going to tell you up front that book #3 of the Hedgehog Hollow series is coming out May 4, 2021 and I can’t get a copy quick enough. If you are an animal lover, fan of family drama and an avid romance reader please pick this series up, you will rapidly devour it and love it as much as me.

New Arrivals at Hedgehog Hollow is book 2 in the series but of course can be read as a stand alone. Though all the same characters carry through from the first in the series, picking this one up first will not leave you feeling lost. Jessica Redland does this brilliant recap at the beginning of this book that brings you right up to date without spoiling any of the fine juicy bits. I still recommend grabbing book 1 first, because if you start with book 2 you will only want to go back and read the first one, so you might as well do them in order.

We continue at Hedgehog Hollow where Samantha has now opened the rescue center and is taking in the prickly critters at a steady rate. Sam is still working as a teacher at the nursing school and quickly becomes overwhelmed with working two jobs. Questioning herself and her ability to run the rescue makes her think she’s bitten off more than she can chew, and makes an already busy life much more stressful.
In the meantime her relationship with Josh is flourishing and she is happier than ever, but when Josh’s past starts knocking at the door (literally), he is faced with dealing with his relationships he has worked so hard to leave behind.

With all of this, Sam still has to deal with the continuous harassment from the Grimes Boys, her tumultuous relationship with her cousin Chloe, and the rejection of her mother. Will Sam and Josh’s relationship and the future of the rescue be effected by all the new stressors, or can they find a way to work through it all and move forward?

Heartwarming, cozy, and downright realistic when it comes to family drama, this truly is one of the best series I have read in a very long time. I laughed, I got angry, I cried, and my heart melted all while reading this book. It’s no wonder Jessica Redland has 9 successful novels already, and the Hedgehog series is a delightful addition to her repertoire. It certainly helps that I love hedgehogs too. HEDGEHOGS!!! How can you not love hedgehogs? Highly recommend this 5 star sequel to this delightful and charming series.

Thank you so much to Jessica Redland, Rachel Gilbey from Rachels Random Resources, Boldwood Books, and Netgalley for my gifted copy of this book for my honest and unbiased opinion.

  1. Aw, what a fabulous end to the day reading this truly gorgeous review. I cannot thank you enough for your kind words and your excitement for this series and, indeed, part 3. I’m delighted you loved it so much and I really appreciate that you see the story as realistic as I do try to portray reality with the highs and lows we all experience as well as some of the negative individuals we encounter. Already excited to hear what you make of Family Secrets at Hedgehog Hollow. Thank you again x

    1. Oh Jessica thank you so much. I really can’t wait to get to Book 3, and I mean every word I said about this series. You really do nail the emotional stuff quite well with your writing, and I’m so glad to have been on your tours and introduced to your books.
Hedgehogs rule! (Oh and love the do’s and don’ts at the end of the book)!

    1. Yep, and its such an easy read. Don’t worry, there is a lot of stuff in the first one that the “update” didn’t ruin, so you will love it.

      1. Thank you so much Hannah and Carla. Carla – excited to read your review later and hope you love your return journey to Hedgehog Hollow. Hannah – I think The Works have sold out online (nothing was coming up when I searched on my name earlier) but I don’t know if they hold things in baskets. Fingers crossed x

      2. Oh no!!! I’ve just checked and it’s gone. Will have to keep checking and just buy it when they next have it instead of dithering for other books at the same time 🤦🏼‍♀️
