Here is a little about the book:
Summer in the City
The heartwarming new holiday read from the bestselling author of A Mistletoe Miracle
Sometimes the one thing you’re looking for is right in front of you…
Stephen is on a very personal mission to find his father as per the wishes in their mother’s will. But he has no idea where to start, not that he’s going to tell anyone that… When Noelle, native New Yorker, daughter of a detective and desperate for a distraction from the novel she’s been struggling to write, offers to help, it feels like the perfect solution.
Except the last time she spoke to Stephen he thought they’d be seeing the New Year in together and instead she stood him up and sold him out! Stephen’s big enough and been around the block enough times to understand that all is fair in love and war, isn’t he? But when Stephen accepts her offer and they begin their search across the city, it soon becomes clear that the weather isn’t the only thing that’s heating up.
A heartwarming summer romance perfect for fans of Heidi Swain, Sarah Morgan and Holly Martin.
Review
Get ready for your New York City summer vibes! It’s all right here my friends, sweet and neat in this wonderful romcom by Emma Jackson.
This is a furtherance of two characters who originally met in Emma’s last book A Mistletoe Miracle, though both books can read independantly from each other.
We have Noelle, a cozy mystery writer who is having total writers block with her current book which is past due. Then we have Stephen, who is in NYC for work for the summer – and is also looking for his father per his mothers wishes in her will. When these two meetup randomly in a bar, [not seeing each other since New Years when Noelle stood him up and left him hanging], a chemistry filled summer with the two of them “helping each other out” with their respective needs ensues.
Emma Jackson’s writing is like a cozy blanket, there is nothing more enjoyable than snuggling up with it and relaxing into a comfortable evening, and Summer in the City does just that. Written in alternating perspectives, we get to see both Noelle and Stephen’s points of view and just the quirky barter of snark between these two is reason enough to pick this one up in itself. Jackson knows how to write a delightful romcom, with extremely likable characters and some underlying hard issues that make the book entertaining, yet deliberate and quite captivating to read. There is your typical goosebump causing romance and a bunch of added mystery that keeps this one moving along with some good natured secondary characters that fill in the gaps nicely. If you are looking for a heartwarming and fun romcom summer read, this one is certainly where your search ends. A quick read, I highly recommend picking this one up, cozy blanket not necessary! 4 Stars.
