Blog Tour – The Introvert by Michael Paul Michaud

Welcome to my stop on “THE INTROVERT” by Michael Paul Michaud Blog Tour.  This is a very unique mystery/detective suspense  novel that I had the privilege of reading on behalf of Books on the Bright Side Publicity and Promo.

About the Book

A vacuum salesman by day, the introvert lives a quiet life alone with his dog until a work relationship and a dark secret from his past team up to create an uncomfortable imbalance in his otherwise ordered life, one that soon finds him squarely at the center of a murder investigation. With his thoughts continually urging him to make people “red and open” and to “achieve it” with his girlfriend Donna, what follows is a sometimes brutal, oftentimes hilarious, and absurdist account of the life of one very anti-social and unexpected anti-hero.

Review

When a book starts out with a dedication that states “for the weirdos” an immediate smile crosses my face, I already know this one is for me.

The Introvert is a novella written by Michael Paul Michaud, who is a new author for me.  This book is about an antisocial vacuum salesman and the “drama” that seems to surround him.  When I first started reading I immediately loved the Introvert.  This guy was hilarious.  You  know all the things you think inside your head but you just cant say?  Well you get to read those things right here in this book…. just as the Introvert thinks them, and its crazy funny.  (Though I have to say I’ve never had thoughts to the same extent as he has, but you have to read it to find out).   This poor guy just wants to walk his dog and watch TV, yet drama seems to continue to follow him.  Now he has his co-worker Donna to contend with, and the Introvert has put a whole new meaning to the words “achieve it.”

The hardest part about reviewing this book is trying to explain what genre it is, and what the story is about without ruining anything.  Amazon has it listed as a mystery/detective suspense novel.   NOPE.  No way.  Does it have mystery, suspense and detection in it? Yes. But this book has a weird and twisted comical side to it, I kept thinking it was comedy for the horror lovers.  But it’s not horror either.   After a little research I found this certain type of writing is called is “dark humor” and let me tell you its odd and weird and downright funny in a “Forrest Gump meets Mr. Brooks” type way.  I absolutely loved every minute of it and truly laughed out loud a few times while shaking my head at the same time.

The best part about this story is that there is a sequel.  I am fortunate enough to be on the book tour to promote The Introvert Confounds next month.  I can not wait to dig into this new book.  This is a new genre for me and I am so glad to have been introduced to it.  Michael Paul Michaud has a unique mind and I love his writing.  It takes a brilliant person to be able to write something like this, and to keep the reader entertained and interested at the same time.  Definitely give this one a chance.  I give it a strong 4 stars.  I loved it.

Thank you to Will Patching, Black Opal Books and Sarah Hardy from Book On The Bright Side Publicity and Promo for the opportunity to read and review this book for my unbiased and honest review.

Author Bio

I am an American-Canadian citizen, a criminal prosecutor, and author of BILLY TABBS (& THE GLORIOUS DARROW) (bitingduckpress) and THE INTROVERT series (Black Opal Books). I have a B.A. in English from McMaster University, an Honors B.A. in Political Science (summa cum laude) from McMaster University, a J.D. from The University of Western Ontario (with an international exchange completed at Washington & Lee). I have won awards for both my community service and my work as a criminal prosecutor. I am a member of Crime Writers of Canada and International Thriller Writers. I also strive to maintain a strong social media author presence, including at facebook.com/michaelpaulmichaud, and have made regular appearances on SiriusXM’s Canada Talks. I am an unabashed and unapologetic zealot of Twin Peaks. Literary influences are primarily Orwell, Dickens, Vonnegut, Dostoevsky.

I was inspired to write The Introvert after reading Crime and Punishment (Dostoevsky) and The Stranger (Camus). It has been likened to Dexter and American Psycho meeting Office Space and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime. I also consider it the most unorthodox of animals rights books. Every dog lover should read them.
