When a job transfer takes Susan Wade back to Havelock — the hometown she swore she’d forsaken — she finds herself immediately at odds with old nemesis Pete Walsh. When they finally see eye-to-eye, can she find love in the unlikeliest of places? – as featured on Bookbub June 2019

Can two lost souls find love?

A promotion is the only thing Susan is thinking of when her friend convinces her to take a shortcut transfer. But she should have paid more attention to the fine print. North Carolina, the state where her nightmares began, is the one place she’s been trying to avoid since she left for college nearly a decade ago. Now a Northern sophisticate, complete with the right clothes, the right car, and the right accent, she enjoys all the things the small coastal town of Havelock could never offer.

Susan’s not expecting a warm welcome when she returns home. Friends are hard to come by, but she’s never had any trouble making enemies, and Pete Walsh, the town’s favorite son, is no exception. When they butt heads on her first day of work, Susan discovers a worthy adversary. And while his pranks and fake Southern gentleman routine are awfully amusing, Susan is shocked by Pete’s uncanny ability to see the insecure girl hiding behind her carefully constructed facade. And she’s not the only one wearing a mask…

After Susan’s world blows up, Pete helps her pick up the pieces. Enemies become friends, but is there more? And when she’s forced to make a choice, will she listen to her heart or her head?

Lose yourself in this beautifully complex and completely mesmerizing story about second chances, learning to trust again, and the consuming power of love.

About the Author

Who Am I ?

That’s an excellent question, and not necessarily rhetorical.

Reformed Southerner An ex-pat eking out a harried existence north of the Mason-Dixon Line. From this vantage, I can write about The South, see it clearly, though at times through rose-colored Coke bottles. Of course, everywhere looks rosy with these things on.
Reformed academician And while much of my adult life has been spent writing nonfiction, nothing says boring to the common man like expanded octets and electron configurations…What? Did somebody say something? Is that drool
Unreformed female Because no task is more daunting than making sense of the senseless male psyche, my writings will always explode from the glorious mouth of chaos. You’re welcome.
Why do I write? Because I love it, because it entertains, because it keeps me sane-well, most of the time.  And if, at the end of the day, you’ve laughed, or even just felt something, all is right in my world.
